Yari - Hotaka traverse  Sucess!

Traversed from Yariga-take with Etsuko, stayed in Hotaka-dake sanso, bagged Oku-hotaka first thing next morning and came down to Kamikochi via Dakesawa. Crazy weather that day... strong wind/overcast early in the morning turning to snow/rain in the afternoon. It felt like winter is right around the corner. All in all, glorious outing!

Tick  Sucess!

I met a guy named Yokoda-san at iSiD who invited me along with his group of ten friends to climb Yariga-take, Japan's second most famous mountain (behind Fuji-san). We had to change objectives because the train was delayed on the way over. It actually worked out better that way though, because instead I climbed Hotaka-dake, not as famous, but Japan's second highest.

The group turned out to be some seriously fun and seriously in shape people. They practically ran up the mountain and we had each other laughing all the way there. I stuck with them on Saturday and then split up late Saturday afternoon because I wanted to try a harder route on Sunday. Then we met up again on the way back.

In all it was a really amazing trip. I'll be going back to the North Alps sometime soon I assure you.

Tick, Again  Sucess!

Climbed as part of a 43 non-stop traverse from the Pacific to Japan Sea costs, taking in most of the Kita, Chuno, Minimi Alps, and Ontake.

Route Climbed: from Kamikochi (south) Date Climbed: Summer 1960  Sucess!

I climbed this peak as a boy with my parents. We climbed from the south and ascended Mae-Hotaka and Kita-Hotaka as well. We stayed overnight in a mountain hut on the ridge north of Oku Hotaka. I remember it as the most alpine climbing I did in Japan.

Route Climbed: route from mountain hut to Oku-Hotaka Date Climbed: June xx, 2002  Sucess!

Pouring rain, in the midst of typhoon. Route finding was okay, but zero visibility at summit. Solo climb without equipment, refugee hut was real comfy!
