Up hourglass to Mt Dade summit  Sucess!

Looks more daunting than it actually is! Snow was in decent condition, but definitely bakes in the sun if you don't start early. Heard several rockfalls more toward Mt Abott around noon, so be careful!

Hourglass Couloir  Sucess!

With Ann. A very enjoyable romp up the Hourglass. Fresh snow made filled the voids between the boulders on the upper Class 2 section and made it more tedious.

Fun ski  Sucess!

A good long ski season this year. Climbed and skied Hourglass with Vendulka, a nice half day trip. Slabs from top of the couloir to the summit were fun with the snow.

Deep Snow in Couloir  Sucess!

The couloir was covered with postholing type of snow, but the day was sunny with a brisk air temp and the climb was enjoyable. The ridge to the summit was mixed rock and snow so slippery going with boots. Most of the top was covered with fresh snow. We managed to dig the register box out of the snow cover.

Forced Retreat

Climbed to the top of the couloir only to be met with heavy snow and 60+ mph winds. Descended and camped at Treasure Lakes only to find substantial new snow at the top of the couloir the following morning. Too high avy risk for our taste, would return a few days later to complete the route, which contained evidence of recent avy releases.

buddy puked on summit  Sucess!

tried this in winter, but crampons wouldn't fit borrowed boots- doh! neve conditions were perfect, my buddy hurled on the summit and just kind of tumbled down the softened north side in the afternoon.

Hourglass Couloir  Sucess!

Solo daytrip total success. Not enough snow in couloir to satisfy my itch but the class 3 sections and view were totally worth the slog section. Windy and warm until the clouds rolled in and chased me out with pelting hail.
