Seclusion on a 14er?!  Sucess!

Hiked on a Monday after Crestone Peak the day before. Saw ZERO people all day until I descended and packed out to the TH. Standard route from the old 4WD TH. Took the Humboldt shortcut to the lakes.

pavellush  Sucess!

Used west route to Humboldt from South Colony Lakes road from a parking lot at the road closure with a gate. Very nice blue skies all way. Really warm for that time of the year!

Unpleasant  Sucess!

This was cold and windy. The wind blew my hat off, never to be seen again. It was blowing so hard, we didn't approach near the cliffs at the summit for fear of being blown off. Loose, ankle breaker talus was never ending. My partners all had some degree of AMS. Great mini-epic.

Great views  Sucess!

Great way to bask in the glory of the harder ascents of the Peak and the Needle. Summit is more interesting than it looks from below.

Defining Independence Day  Sucess!

Some solos in the Sangres for Independence Day: Crestone Needle via Southface, followed by Broken Hand Peak via North ridge/West slopes, followed by Humboldt Peak via typical West ridge in one long day. Drove over from Rye and left the truck at the South Colony Lakes trailhead around 4:30 am, first one on the Needle summit at 8:00 am sharp, Broken Hand summit at 10:15 am, rested at upper South Colony Lake for lunch hour (beautiful trout visible in the rapids), Humboldt Peak summit around 3:30 pm, back at the truck at 6:00 pm and back in Rye in time for dinner. Beautiful day, great rock, but felt like I had been run over by a train the next morning. Highly recommend.

Humboldt E. Ridge in the Spring  Sucess!

First time doing Humboldt but had a nice day on the East ridge route. Approx 6k feet of elevation and 13 miles. Strong winds but very warm day for early April. Ridge is largely snow free, only needed snowshoes in trees after leaving the rainbow trail.
Left trail head at 7:12, Summit 12:36, back to car 16:30
