Normal route
Started at 7am and found the going pretty quick. Summitted at around 9am. Met a couple of ladies up on the summit and we cowered around the shelters as 60 mph winds blew all around us. Good times.

Humphreys Trail
What a fine trail. I moved to Flagstaff on the 19th and summited this on 21st. It was such a thrill. There was dutch hiker who was practically running up this thing. Pretty amazing. This peak is 12633 feet.

Late Fall Summit
Dan L and I climbed in a dusting of a few inches of snow, which was largely gone a week later when we came out of our 5 day trip through the Grand Canyon. Weather was perfect. We only saw three others on the trail, although none of them were summiting. Humphreys was number 42 of my 49 state high points, and the first new SHP I'd climbed in over twelve years. This marked the beginning of the end of my quest, which was completed in June 2009, nearly 24 after visiting my first SHP.
Lots of people on the mountain. Surprisingly, no one got blown off! Good views of the Grand Canyon.

A Perfect Day On Humphreys Peak
After seriously considering going up the Abineau Canyon approach, this unmitagated peak-bagger opted for the quickest way up, starting from the Snow Bowl Lodge. The most popular approach, I saw many people and dogs on this trail. About 6 years ago a friend and I tried for this high point but were unable to hike it as the area was closed due to a forest fire here at that time, we could see the smoke from the south rim of the Grand Canyon.
Now as I hiked up above tree line I could look over to the Grand Canyon and see smoke from a fire there. Ironic.
I got a very late start and finished the last mile in the dark. It had been a perfect day to be out on the peak. Walk in Beauty.

Kicked off a big trip
On my way to the Sierra where a friend and I did Whitney. Humphreys was a nice way to get the road trip going.
It was a beautiful day to hike. Started at 6am, summited around 10:55am and got back down to trailhead at 2:25pm.
The section between the saddle and the summit was tough but was exhilarating when accomplished.

Trail toTop
We passed a bicyclist while driving up to TH who later passed us just before the summit, he had rode from Flagstaff, which made our feat not as impressive. Luckily he was able to take our picture as no one else was around, there was almost no traffic on the Mountain, I was quite suprised. There was however a severe swarm of unidentified bugs at the summit, which caused us, unfortunately, to stay on top about 60 seconds. Weather was perfect, no wind, and temps in the mid 70s.
Capped off a nice week in Arizona for us. Spent the prior five days in the Grand Canyon and Havasu Canyon. The wind at the summit was the strongest I have ever experienced. Unreal, we had to crawl at times. Very nice area.
I climbed this peak twice. In September of '85 we nearly got blown off the peak. It was very difficult to even stand once we got near the top. In late October of the same year there was some snow but it was calm and clear with lots of interesting rime on the summit rocks...and what a view!

Main Trail
Cold and windy but otherwise a great hike. The north rim of the Grand Canyon is clear. Hardly any snow which was surprising.

Heat and Humid and Buggy Summit
Its a buggy mess on top and the saddle approach can be a bit tough at times...otherwise its a nice one to tackle on a Sunday afternoon...

Humphrey's in May On a business trip to Phoenix, I made my way up to Flagstaff for some hiking. What a great mountain. Of course, the winds almost blew me back to Phoenix.

Hurricane forces on Humphreys peak
Had to abort about 30 yards from the summit. Winds were insanely strong! Thought I was going to get blown off the mountain. Posted a trip report of that day.

perfect weather day
Couldn't have asked for better weather, it was perfect. Great hike and a good companion to enjoy the hike with. Snow still in the trees but none on the ridge above timberline. Met a few others as we descended who were chasing the state highpoints and a SP member who takes awesome photos. (paganiphotos)

Winter sunrise climb
Since the snow has not come, we climb the nearly bare summit ridge and see the sunrise, casting an amazing shadow over the land. It is bitterly cold and windy, but it is beautiful.

Humphreys climb
Was lucky to team up with a local. Broke trail from about 10K to the ridge. Not much snow on the ridge, totally windless on the summit, should have brought a newspaper. Down via the ski slopes. Great day!

standard route - solo hike
Drove down from Vegas the night before. Started hiking early before the ski lift started operating (so I saved some money and later got a free ride down). Nice weather, met several hikers packing boots and skis so they could ski down the north face.

Route Climbed: Humphrey's Peak trail
Climbed this guy during a family reunion with my cousin. He had to stop when we got to the saddle but told me to summit without him. As soon as I started to head back down to him I saw him making the final approach; he had decided he couldn't climb that high and not get to the top of Arizona. It was nice to see a few pockets of snow in the middle of summer, but the flies were horrible. All in all great climb; my highest altitude yet.

Ideal Hiking in February this year!
I was a bit discouraged thinking that I would be in Arizona and not be able to hit the highpoint because it was February. The description of the mountain on summitpost, makes one think that nobody climbs it in the winter without crampons. Well, I guess I got lucky, because it was a beautiful February day and a beautiful hike! This was my 5th highpoint. (Fl,Co,La,Ar,Az)
