Hunting Eagle

Hunting Eagle

Bald eagles appeared to be fairly common in the Kawuneeche Valley in the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park. This one was hanging out near the lightly flowing Colorado River. Photo taken Nov 13, 2009.

Nice shot

I saw one of these beautiful animals up at a hut outside of Aspen yesterday.

Re: Nice shot

Thanks. They are amazing to watch. We saw them several times in the Kawuneeche Valley over our two days there. In fact, I think there's a stretch of the Colorado River below Shadow Mountain Lake that's closed to hikers during the winter due to eagle nesting.

Great!

Wow, that is great luck to see those birds so close. I have not had the chance, yet. Thank you so much for posting!

Re: Great!

Thanks! I did get lucky this time. All my other attempted photos of bald eagles capture their backside off in the distance as they're flying away.

Thanks again.

Just happen to be at the right place at the right time. Wish I had a camera with me for the many encounters I've had trail running in the mountains...

Thanks! It's always a special treat to see an eagle in the backcountry.
