Took advantage of a light start to winter with a group of 7 up the standard route from Winfield. Typically the winter maintenance on the road ends 8 mile below this point, so what is normally a 26 mile winter hike was only 10. Can't complain about that! Some new snow might change the ability to drive the road soon, recommend 4WD due to snowpack/icy spots.
Started off by hiking Huron Peak and hiked north to summit Brown's Peak and UN 13,456. Great weather, sunny and long.
What a great day. Sunny skies, warm and no wind...in mid-December.
Was a great early winter climb with no one else around to speak of. Great views too!
I am from the mid-west and Huron was my first climb and first time ever in Colorado. I was completely unprepared for the wind, cold, and altitude. I'm sad to say I turned back just below the false summit.
Poor snow on approach, poor snow above treeline, but great views! The 4X4 trail was very muddy and made for some extra fun.
Came up Lulu Gulch and over Browns Peak with Kapelmuur. Great route, great views and no people until we hit the summit of Huron.
First time on the summit of a high peak. This really set a fire under me.
Summited North Ridge after hitting Brown's from Lulu Gulch.
Rough 4WD approach. Went with Kevin, a Maine flatlander, but he did great. Got a little off route in 8" of wet snow, but made the summit.
Over 3400 feet of elevation gain in 3.4 miles. Great Views from the summit.
Wonderful bluebird day for a mountain hike. Huron probably has the best summit view that I have ever experienced! I think that I was able to see all the way to the San Juans!
Climbed with Dave B., his second time up. Absolutely spectacular views!
Good weather, lots of marmots.
What pretty peak with bomber views from the summit! I really like the wide, green bowl between treeline and talus.
The views from the summit are simply amazing.
Did Browns in conjunction. Climbed with Mike Vetter. Trip report available at http://www.100summits.com/trip-reports
Spent a stunning morning climbing Huron with Matt Payne from 100summits.com. Took in views of the 3 apostles, then traversed to Browns Peak. Didn't feel so hot due to lack of good conditioning, but made it up and down without any real issues. Trip report: http://intheexpanse.com/mountaineering/huron-browns-june-2010
