One of the easier 14ers, but it has great views! Got my Outback to the main trailhead.
great views of three apostles and a fairly easy and quick jaunt up as long as you're acclimated to the elevation.
We parked about 1/4 mile up the road from the lower TH and walked the road to the TH starting at 5:00 am. Saw some eyes in the headlights but it was just a deer. Summitted to bluebird conditions at 7:45 am and spent a half hour on the summit enjoying the great views of The Three Apostles. We were back down to the car by 10:15 am. Definitely one of the prettiest areas in the Sawatch.
Felt strong for not being that high in three years also a beautiful day
Climbed to summit for sunrise, but fog obscured all views
As an attempt to not have to drive all the way back to Missouri Gulch, started this mountain at like 8pm and was on the top at about 10:45pm. Thankfully this was the latest summit of the summer.
Started at first "trailhead", didn't drive a 4X4, loved the views, great hike with a lot of different terrain. The views at the summit were awesome except for the haze from all the wildfires burning in other states.
Best in the Sawatch so far. Excellent views of the Three Apostles.
Nice views on a clear day! Traversed over and bagged Browns peak before heading out.
Left lower 2wd TH at 5:30 / back down by 4:30. Scenic area back there.
With Rachael, skied off the summit onto east face working my way back to the Browns saddle while she hiked down. Then skied the NW bowl together to treeline. Patchy snow in the trees and road made for a lot of skis-on/skis-off carrying which was annoying, but the ski above treeline was fun.
Hiked in May, with lots of post-holing later in the day.
I was the third of seven climbers (plus one dog) to summit Huron Peak on Wednesday, September 28, 2016. There was a rock with name of mountain on it in black marker; no summit registry. Five of seven were women. Climbers were from Texas, Colo Springs, Montrose CO, Westminster CO, Montana, and Arvada CO. Spectacular fall climb. Notable wildlife: Big Coyote above timberline; and snowshoe hare at trailhead area. Ample dispersed camping was available. Awesome aspen color enroute to trailhead on County Rd 390.
My 21st Colorado 14er
The finish to a long week. A goat joined us for the climb from the saddle to the summit.
#1 9-4-15 Enjoyable climb. Began half way to the TH sign. Mit Yz. Averaged 1,300'/hour up.
A bit cold and windy at the top. Fingers got a bit numb.
Climbed with Mary. One of the nicest 14ers I've done so far. We waited in the trees for an isolated storm that passed over at around 7AM, and then had great weather for the rest of the trip.
