From winfield  Sucess!

We were alone on the top for a while and got down early as it started to storm as we hiked back through the trees. We did the 4wd road approach on mountain bikes and Turbo ran the whole way. He's a super dog! The upper meadows and flowers were awesome at 12k feet.

Standard  Sucess!

Incredible summit views, and a pleasant, scenic route. Drooled at the sight of the rather snowy and rocky Three Apostles next door. Then on to Browns Peak.

Hmmm  Sucess!

I basically jogged up this one...except for the section of stairs that somebody created. I get the whole trail concept, but it kinda takes the fun out of "climbing" a mountain.

Standard Route  Sucess!

Left from .5 mi from Windsor as I wasn't feeling up for risking the rental car up the nasty road. Me and brother had summit to ourselves and beers to enjoy the magnificent view.

Easy day...beautiful day...  Sucess!

Another outstanding day in the Colorado high country! My regular hiking/climbing partner (shanrickv) and I did Mount of the Holy Cross July 4th. I decided to stick around and do Huron Peak the following AM. Perfect conditions, blue skies, reasonably snow free trail, moderate crowds, and the chance to stand at 14,003'! Met 2 fellow 14ers.com folks as well...all in all a great day!

Tour de Huron  Sucess!

Summited via Lulu Gulch. Managed to also summit Point 13,462 and Browns Peak (13,523) for a great Tour de Huron. Huron is very impressive from both of these sub peaks.

Beautiful day, beautiful hike  Sucess!

What a better way to celebrate our nation's Independence Day than to stand at the top of one of the nation's great peaks? Met a family from 14ers.com, camped on Rt 390, started hiking at 7AM. Made the summit a little before 11AM, and was down about 2:15. Beautiful day, great trails (except for that crazy trail for the summit push -- no trail was necessary there!), and just a beautiful hike through the woods. Recommend to all!

The Hard Way - YARR!  Sucess!

I'm on a kick of celebrating the remoteness of big peaks, so I started at the Pine Creek TH just off route 24. Hiked up the Pine Creek Valley to the saddle between Iowa and Emerald; walked up those; dropped down into the Clear Creek Lake Fork valley E of Huron; scrambled up Huron via the loose rock and snow on the N side of the basin that holds Lois Lake; N along the ridge all the way past Cross Mtn and then East back down to the creek again, which was scary high and not crossable for my doggie companions, so bushwhacked back up to Cloyses Lake; S up the Pear Lake trail, over a couple passes to get to Silver King Lake basin; back all the way down Pike Creek and back to the very welcome sight of the car. Phew! 3.5 killer days and a mighty fine adventure. =) I hobbled around for a day after I got back, but I'm getting over the trauma enough to consider the next adventure. Max, my 11-year-old dog, might need some gentler adventures, but he is a real trooper. 37 miles, 13,000 vertical feet... it was truly satisfying to reach Huron this way.

Tour de Huron  Sucess!

Climbed solo as a ridge tour with Cross, Middle, 13462 and Browns. Second time up. Still pretty snowy for the last day of May, the road is still blocked with snow at the start of the 4WD section.

Huron

I climbed Huron Peak at age 4 with my Dad in July 2006. My Dad and I also attended the 14ers.com gathering on October 28 2007 where I went up to 13,640 feet.

Second attempt  Sucess!

The day before I tried to hike up to the summit, but was turned back around 13,000 feet due to approaching thunderstorm. So headed back and tried again the next day. This time the weather held and I was successful.
