Re: good to knowI'm afraid I can't tell you the name of the plant. We met no people in the area where they were found. I was curious about the name, but no one to ask.

how do you get the water outIs it just between those leaves? or it soaks in? hmm.... interesting.

Re: how do you get the water outThe plant is like a bowl. You can usually bend it sideways to get the water from it, but sometimes they broke. At times I drank straight out of them. We were lost for some time in Mt Kenya National Park and those plants were our only source of (non-muddy) water.
