Sunny Day near Moab ?

View looking east at Wilson's Arch. This was my wife's first sighting of a natural arch in southern Utah. A trail leads up to the arch. Wilson Arch, also known as Wilson's Arch, is a natural sandstone arch in SE Utah along U.S. Route 191, 24 miles south of Moab. It has a span of 91' and height of 46.' It's visible from the road to the east where there are turnouts with interpretive signs. We had a few clouds and light rain when we passed through, but the nearby La Sals were quite spectacular in their snowy mantle. Geez, WHAT'S with all these peaks, mountains, and natural landforms throughout the west called WILSON ??? For crying out loud! Why wasn't I named after a Wilson? April 26, 2009

Re: Great Arches

Just up the road 24 more miles, a billboard
(sign) reads:

"Please visit Moab's 'OTHER' arches, the
GOLDEN ones!"

Now, it just so happens that the "Golden
Arches" are the trademark for the
"McDonalds" chain of fast food restaurants.

I got "arched" in Moab, Utah! Would anybody
like fries with their burger ??? ??

Re: Great Arches

We've had the other arches for about 15 years now. My daughters used to visit them to get a free Winnie the Pooh or his Friends, then a bit later one of them (daughters, I mean) tried working for/under them (arches, I mean) to get some extra money for the summer but she couldn't bear the burgers and switched to a corner shop after just one day. But she still quite likes fries. And I'm sure she wouldn't mind working in the shade of such an arch (if there is any shade available) :)

Re: Great Arches

As we 'muddle' through our lives, we reflect
on our family & friends, and perhaps draw
comparisons (and recite poetry) about how
they "change" through the years. : ))
Famous quote:
"Age is an issue of mind over matter.
If you don't mind, it doesn't matter!"

(Mark Twain - date unknown)

Re: Great Arches

Yeah, but it still wasn't good enough to
beat "the awesome Carpathians" as photo-of-the-day.

Think I'll drown my sorrows in another
Slovak "red label" draft beer! : )

Re: Great Arches

Thanks for telling me! I wouldn't have clicked as I wasn't expecting any beer in that great can!!! I was about to say, "You just can't beat the Carpathians" but instantly realized there have been so many better Carpathian/Rocky/Red pix that never made it to the top that I'd better shut up.
Cheer up, Larry, have a red(-label) pint! :)
