Indian canyon  Sucess!

Five hours from car to north dome trail, four hours to descend yosemite falls trail. Great loop with lots of quality scrambling in the creek bed. Be prepared for some bushwhacking especially near the narrowest point.

From North Dome  Sucess!

Descended from North Dome Trail. Several spots where you gotta choose between wet and slippery creek rocks or bushwhacking. Be ready to get dirty!

One Tough Indian Canyon  Sucess!

This was a tremendously challenging stretch for my 11 year old son and I. Maybe even a foolish stretch. It was very buggy until we got above the valley into the bouldery canyon. The climbing was very challenging, with several brushy detours, especially once the water appeared as promised half way up. Took us 6 hours to get up, and 4 hours going down Yosemite Falls trail. I have reclassified my climbing ability down to class 2 after this hike. Fun in retrospect but not so fun at several points at the time. Still - a great sense of accomplishment and an adventure that will never be forgotten!

Indian Canyon

Autumn is a good time to try it. This time I did it alone and met my brother Jack at the top. The Canyon ascends almost 3000' in just over a mile and the descent by Yosemite Falls and trail made a good loop.

Indian Canyon

Intrigued by John Muir's story of his descent of Indian Canyon on August 3, 1869[?], and because it looked like the most direct natural way up to the rim, I led a Sierra Club hike up the canyon. We got about 3/4 to the top. The water in the creek was high and the bypass we found to our left required a high class 4 move, so we went back down. It was still an enjoyably challenging and memorable day.
