Indian Pipe

Indian Pipe is a parasitic plant that generally grows near pine. It is perfectly white, lacking the chlorophyll that creates the green in most plants. It turns black and dies as fall approaches.

Ghostly

I recall finding these plants in the woods of eastern Massachusetts. They are a kind of symbol to me of the what makes the woods of New England so interesting. There are so many surprising things to find there if you take the time to look.
