Ipomopsis tenuituba, Winnemucca Lake

Ipomopsis tenuituba, Winnemucca Lake

This type of Firecracker Flower was previously though to be a subspecies of Ipomopsis aggregata, but it is a distinct species. Unlike Ipomopsis aggregata, I. tenuituba does not have stamens (the male, pollen-bearing parts) that protrude much, if at all, from the flower tube. The flower color also tends to be pink, and sometimes can be white. Photo taken July 16, 2008.
