Easy walk-up with great views

Was lucky to have the summit to myself, all the better for soaking in the magnificent sights... Sunny, but windy with occasional swirling clouds near this and other summits.

Josephine Fire Road

Easy 8-mile hike up the fire road with really nice views. Peak 1 of 4 followed by Vetter, Mooney & Barley Flats.

Overnighter at Josephine Saddle

Backpacked to the saddle via Colby Canyon and set up tent there for a night...woke up and tackled the summit next morning. Very prominent peak so the views are really nice. Ran into a group of Chinese trail runners at that top that made me feel out of shape although I feel like I am in decent shape.

Nice ride

I do this every once in a while. Fun (though fairly steep) mt. bike or hike with nice views up top.

From Colby Canyon

A group of 8 did Josephine, then Strawberry, and finally Lawlor. 18.3 miles and 5,700' of gain on a beautiful spring day, not too hot.

Great evening views

We hiked up via Colby Canyon, and up the fire road (with a cross country shortcut here and there). Nice rocks to play around on near the top, and beautiful views on a chilly Fall afternoon. Walked down in the dark on the fire road.

Fabulous Autumn Day

This was an amazing ride up to the top of Josephine peak. The Autumn colors were incredible paired with the dramatic lighting and crisp cool air.

Josephine Peak Road

Walked up the Josephine Peak Road to the summit then east across the ridge to Strawberry & Lawlor. There is still lots of poodle dog between Josephine and Strawberry, but it appears the area may be opening soon as there was a large Sierra Club trail crew working on the trail from Red Box to Strawberry Saddle.

Up Fire Road

Hiked to one of the ugliest summits in San Gabriels. Nice views from top but a lot of clutter is distracting.

We hiked up the fire road. There was snow right after the saddle, so pretty much post holed my way up, whew! Great views from here!

Colby Canyon

First time on Colby Canyon trail. Nice short day hike with a couple buddies and one of their 10 year old kids. A little snow on upper parts of fire road.
