Planning to hike Clouds Rest end of May (2013) now that they have announced opening of the Tioga Pass road.
Would like to get a feel for the snow pack to Clouds Rest from Tenaya Lake and the level of water at Sunset Lakes, to get a feel for crossing the lake at the start of the hike.
Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
This is a pretty low snow year, so I would be surprised if the snow would give you much trouble at the end of May. I was just up there this past March and Tenaya Lake to Clouds rest was under about 3ft of snow at the deeper parts. Tenaya Lake was still frozen over, but I wouldn't walk on it. We ended up crossing the stream below the lake (no bridge). If you swing through the ranger station, they can probably give you more up to date snow info.
Have fun on your hike!
