A "Jump Move" on the East Face of Mount Wilbur. (Seemed like a good idea at the time!)

Thats a wild pic and from that angle almost looks like you are jumping to your death. -Tim-

Re: looks like fun

Fun - yes. Smart - ?

Actually the landing was a quite spacious ledge. It was just easier to hop off a short traverse to the ledge than to do the fine moves required to get there.

Yeah Fred, but you're spoiling your image and disillusioning me! You're the original mountain stud, man! At least this pic makes a good case for it (OK-I love pictures that stretch the truth).

Re: looks like fun

It seems like there is a ledge 2 or 2.50 m below where he took off. As well one of you could have helped him by putting your shoulders. Did he landed well? Did he injure himself?

By the way, I've done a similar move wearing crampons and landing on a steep hard snow patch

YEEEE HAAAAAA

I used to do stuff like that with an external frame Kelty Tioga but I got out of that habit very quickly.

Thanks

Re: Well?

There was no large ledge to cross on.

As stated the landing spot was large and safe.

There was no need to "help" anyone.

Re: Well?

I asked if he injured himself because you seemed doubtful about the jump idea ("seemed like a good idea at the time! Smart?")
