Great Ridge  Sucess!

Hiked in from D&F Pack station; great views the whole way up. No people. One of my favorite ridges, especially considering the ease of access and great weather.

Kaiser Peak  Sucess!

Very nice hike. Beautiful views from the top. Did it 2 years ago over 4th of July weekend. There was nobody else on the mountain and still quite a bit of snow on the top. We lost the trail on the bit up, but if you stay to the right of the gully you are okay.

freezing night on Kaiser  Sucess!

making the most of winter break from college, I met up with my buddies Walt and Roger in Fresno and headed up to Huntington Lake. We had no idea how cold it was going to be, but had a nice start to the climb. Parking at Lakeshore Resort and hiking by the pack station, I found a sledding saucer in the road. I grabbed it, and it would come in handy - because later we learned that we had forgotten the lid to our pot and this was going to help our water heat up.
Eventually the temps dropped, and we neared the summit around dusk. We set up our 2-man tent for the 3 of us, and had a rough, cold night on the top of Kaiser. It was approx 20 deg F below zero, with brutal winds that made it seem much colder.
Our 3-season tent let in inches of spindrift that night, adding to the adventure. In the morning we ran over to the true summit and got the hell out of there.
Unfortunately, my truck radiator had frozen, and it was still below zero at Huntington Lake (~7000'). I overheated going up Tamarack Pass, but luckily we were able to eventually limp it over the hill and had beer and food at Trappers in Shaver. Good times.

From the pack station  Sucess!

Still a bit of snow above 9k, but nothing substantial.

Tried to head down the back side to George Lake, but there was still substantial snow in the canyon and I didn't have my axe/crampons

Kaiser Loop trail  Sucess!

Dayhiked from D&F pack station, then west on the loop trail down past Nellie Lake, through Mary's Meadow and back. 14-15 miles / 3500' gain I would guess.

The trail from the pack station was mostly clear up to about 9200', but west of the peak the trail was mostly under snow down to about 8200', making for some fun navigation :)

Started from Nellie Lake east on Kaiser Loop Trail. North slopes of ridge still had remains of big cornices in places. Excellent views. Saddle above George Lake also had remains of a cornice, but the rock scramble was dry, with some low-angle snow down to College Lake, where a ducked use trail descends to George. Fun little trip.

Also did it as a short backpack trip in June 2001, starting from D&F, overnighting at Line Creek Lake and returning through Mary's Meadow (etc).

My first summit...  Sucess!

And certainly not to be the last! The view is superb, nearly the entire San Joaquin watershed. It was a fabulous place to piece together many other locations I'd visited into an overall mental map/mosaic. I think the summit bug is in my blood!

From Pack Station July 2005  Sucess!

Can't remember the exact date, but it was a good hike. It was easy for me because we were going slow to accomadate those in our group. Everyone made it with some pushing and pulling (literally!). Great view of the surrounding mountains.

Awesome View

This was my second time climbing this peak. The views are amazing throughout the entire hike. A nice and straitfoward uphill stroll.

Route Climbed: Kaiser Loop Trail Date Climbed: June 15, 2004  Sucess!

Nice hike. I messed up and forgot to bring my camera. The 360 degree views from this summit are nothing short of awesome. Ritter and Banner seem so close. Was up and down in less then 5 hours. Thunderheads where building fast. All in all a beautiful hike.
