Hiked up just after dawn from Gorak Shep in an hour. Stunning views -- probably the best I've seen anywhere.
Great panorama, the second peak on our 3 week trip in Nepal.
Day after my failed summit attempt on Lobuche East - run from Lobuche to Gorak Sheep (two hours), climb Kala Pataar - 1,5 hours and back to Lobuche.
My Father Climbed Kala pattar and any peaks in 1982 . . .
I like Climb kala pattar ...
We had clear weather and great views of Everest all the way from Phortse. The day we hiked up Kala Pataar, there was a bit of cloud cover that hid the mountain, but it was still a fantastic hike. Nepal is such a great place to walk about.
Everything is a little strenuous when you're at these altitudes, especially when you scramble straight up! I wish I would have stayed up there longer...
Early in the morning weather was perfect and the views were great. This is the place you CAN'T miss when trekking to Everest BC.
Had the top to ourselves for a couple of hours! I did not want to come down!
Second time to this spot. Phenomenal grandstand view of Everest/ Nuptse and back down the Khumbu valley to Ama Dablam, etc. A popular but not to be missed spots on any trek through the Khumbu. Dont' listen to the argument over Gokyo Ri v. Kala Pataar, they both give different and stunning views. Just hike up them both! If you have clear weather, I recommned sunset. Probably the best alpinglow I've ever witnessed. On the way back down the moon rose over Everest's south shoulder. What a magical moment!
I recommend the normal route and not the scramble straight up :)
Great views of the area though
Offers a very nice view of Everest. One of the Everest Base Camp trek high points.
View, when Its possible climb early in the morning to see the sunrise over Everest
Still seemed to take forever to climb even after 2 weeks of trekking in Gokyo and Khumbu. I realized I'll never be a high-altitude mountaineer. It's ok though. The views and trip were incredible.
A spectacular panorama, nonetheless.
...from the top!
Awesome! You'll see me with Pumori on my profile page.
Five week trek through the Arun valley and the Khumbu
A nice way to end our Ama Dablam trip. Beautiful views of Everest et. al. Probably the best mountain view in the world. Definitely going back to the area...
It's just a hill. But it has AWESOME views of Everest, Pumori, Ama Dablam, etc.
It snowed about a half of foot the night before I hiked it so it was a work out to get to the top. Once on the summit there wasn't even a view of Everest because of all the cloud cover, what a let down. Better luck next time I guess.
