Kaslo Lake

Kaslo Lake

Kaslo Lake and the Kokanee Glacier Cabin from the flight in to the park this morning. Yesterday, we tried making the flight in for the last switchover of our season, but the clouds were too thick just south of Kokanee Lake so we had to turn back. This morning was beautiful and we took advantage of the window of opportunity. After today, the forecast calls for precipitation every day. It's possible I may not get very far away from the cabin on this shift which goes until December 1st. Time will tell what the weather will bring. Time will also tell on whether I see anyone on this shift. Who knows? Maybe a local will come up and surprise me! Photo by Laszlo Hulicsko, November 8, 2010

Re: Great series

Thank you very much Chad! It was a pretty spectacular morning to be flying above the clouds. As for your question... how to keep a long answer short... I work for the Alpine Club of Canada, who is contracted out to take care of the Kokanee Glacier Cabin and the campground on Kaslo Lake for BC Parks. So, basically, I take care of the cabin and its systems (ie - hydro generator, etc.). Our season got extended to December 1st this year. After that, one of the rangers takes care of it until the end of May, when we come back again. It's supposed to be an alpine hut, but sometimes we jokingly call it Chateau Kaslo. It's pretty comfortable. Maybe slightly too much so! ha! Anyways, that's my best answer while keeping it short. Cheers.

Re: Great series

That it is! To be able to spend my time up here and see the full range of seasons here in the park is pretty special. It gets very busy and flooded with people in the summer and can definitely test one's patience on ocassion. But, I certainly can't complain too much about my circumstances! Take care.
