Certainly one of the greatest mountains in the East. Amazing views in all directions. First state highpoint accomplished and it was well worth it.
The most dramatic setting/mtn in the east coast!
Climbed on a trip with the Outing Club from Brunswick HS. Great group, great mountain, great times!
Wow... what a hike! Absolutely stunning scenery and beautiful weather made for a perfect day. Originally intended on doing Helon Taylor and the Knife edge, but it was rather windy so we opted for Saddle instead.
Amazing weather, 70+ degrees and fall colors, who could ask for more. This hike was more epic than i thought but an absolute blast. Up Cathedral down the Saddle
IMHO. 2009 solo adventure on Knife Edge was great. Went back again with GF and a buddy and did the AT, which is also awesome. I want a winter ascent.
Climbed up the Saddle Trail and hit the top, where it was sunny and filled with people. There must have been 60 people at the top when I arrived. This peak had the most amazing views, and I can't wait to try it again via the Knife Edge route!
My partner on this climb has since passed away, and it is a very important place to me for that and many other reasons.
Kevin and I knocked it out in 6 hours, including swim time in the creek on the way back.
With Serge, on the way to Eastport in the Archer.
This was a fun, but challenging hike for me. Here is a link to the trails that I took. This was SHP #11 for me.
by the time we got to the top it was just about dark
we saw a large fisher cat on the way up which was really cool
Took the Hunt/AT. An awesome hike on a great mountain.
Took Roaring brook to dudley to baxters summit and back. Wasn't to impressed with the famous knife edge trail...hardly any exsposure to speak of.
Cathedral-Knife Edge-Helon Taylor, solo, just under 5 hours car-to-car. Blue-bird skies, almost no wind. Minimal bugs, too. Still a couple of snow patches left in South Basin. All in all a good day - too bad the drive is so damn long...
via an AT thru-hike. snow flurries and no visibility on summit day but nonetheless a great cap to an awesome experience. at age 19, the months alone in my head on the trail were the best thing that ever happened to me...
Climbed via the Abol Slide Trail. Met many interesting people including a man who had summited Katahdin for the 46th time. 8 hours round trip including a leisure lunch at the summit. A clear day with great views. The black flies were brutal. State HP #47.
I climbed this mountain well before even thinking about climbing all 50 state highpoints which was not started until 9 years after this state. From what I can remember of this summit, it was extremely difficult but it started my love affair with hiking. Chimney pond was beautiful!!
Maybe the best mountain in the East if you want some scrambling.
Up Cathedral, Cross the Knife Edge, down Helen Taylor. Beautiful and trying hike that I'll never forget.
