Each time by a different route.
2nd time up Katahdin, this time gorgeous weather. Helon Taylor trail, over Knife's edge, and down Hamlin Ridge. First time up we had nothing but rain (Saddle Trail, Knife's edge, and down Dudley Trail) so it was good to see the view this time!
Summited Baxter Peak on a fairly clear gorgeous winter day. Def the toughest 4 days of my life thus far. what an incredible park!
day tripped abol slide - nice day!
SOLOED THE CHIMNEY POND/HELON TAYLOR TRAILS OVER THE KNIFE EDGE RIDGE...THE MOST ENJOYABLE CLIMB OF MY NEW ENGLAND TRIP WITH THE SUMMIT IN CLOUDS MOST OF THE TRIP, BUT THE CLOUDS PARTING ALONG THE KNIFE EDGE ON THE RETURN
Summited in a cloud the entire time, met sleet and Hail on the Knife Edge, still one of my favorite hikes.
Climbed via the knife edge. Fog gave my hike an eerie quality. Does the sun ever shine in northern Maine?
Oddly, even though I had hundreds of miles of AT left to hike, I always remember summiting Katahdin as the height of my section hike. Descended via Knife Edge and hitched back to the ranger station for my gear.
The end of my thru-hike. Descended via Knife-Edge.
Absolutely majestic. Ascended via cathedral.
There are few peaks that seem as out of place as this one. The only truly steep alpinish peak in the northeast. An incredible place. Hope to have the time to get some climbing in there during the winter time one day!
Of my several ascents of Mount Katahdin, this one was the most meaningful, as it was the culmination of a six-month trek on the Appalachian Trail. Kind of cold and blustery, but still magical.
Beautiful day on a beautiful mountain. I love northern Maine.
My favorite in New England. Day hike from Acadia N.P.
Some time in '96 - Climbed Katahdin many times before.
Long time ago, date is real fuzzy, but did Katahdin leaving from Chimney Pond up to Pamola over the Knife Edge (it wasn't that bad, I loved it) and then down Cathedral Trail. Hmm, need a repeat.
I lived in Millinocket from 1984 to 1990, and climbed Katahdin perhaps a dozen times via all the standard trails. The most memorable was our winter ascent over President's day weekend in 1986, via the Hunt Trail.
Did it as a kid with the boy scouts. What a great climb!
After spending too much time in the approach cliff bands, bailed out of the Armadillo and climbed the horrendously loose 4th class stuff to its right directly to the summit. Not a recommended route.
Toughest hike I done to date.
Did the Hunt Trail
