A Nice Adventure

"It's not the mountain, it's the route. It's not the route, it's the conditions."

Do not implant SAR in your brain as an option. Do what you just did. Glad you made it down by yourselves.

I Love The First 2 Sentences

I appreciated the invitation to join this climb, although I don't think I'll climb Rainier again. I've heard the crevasses near Cadaver Gap are enormous but I doubt if most people will realize how large the one is in the "cheesecake" photo above.

That serac was as big as a good-sized apartment building.
There are so many good routes though! You should consider Liberty Ridge for next spring, then you'll have done the classic.

Really? You don't plan on climbing this peak again? There are some other routes on it that are pretty fun. Usually I don't say never about climbing a certain peak again. But I admit there are a few I can be sure that I won't climb again.

Re: I Love The First 2 Sentences

Honestly, I doubt it. After 3 years in a row, I feel done with Rainier. Also, as you know, my peakbagging tendencies urge me to visit new summits.

Memories

Kautz is a bad ass route, back in 2002 was caught in a cloud/snow white out 100 meters below the top of the chute.
Mad raps down, the pennatentes 'bout castrated me.

Great read...
