Steep climb, quick summit, great views
Headed up as a spur-of-the-moment late season adventure, driving a couple hundred yards up Kelly Gulch Rd (as far as it seemed reasonable for a little passenger car to go - a little too snowy/muddy further up), walking up the road and taking the old Jeep track as far as we could to access the south ridge. There are definitely some steep climbs in there, mostly the final ascent to the summit! Great view at the top, especially of the Pioneers straight across the valley. Descended the summit at first on the ridge before cutting straight down the ridge's west slope to meet up with Kelly Gulch Rd and follow it back to the car. 2hrs 45 up, 2 hrs down, GPS recorded an ascent of about 3200' in 3.6 miles. Good November climb!

West Ridge via Kelly Gulch
Drove up to the very end of the road at 7200' and bushwacked north to gain the ridge. The gully with the gravel patch just west of me would have been a better choice, since the terrain was so steep.
Was on the summit in 45 minutes. Amazing view of the Camas Prairie. Quite surprisingly another hiker showed up shortly after me via the east ridge. Aside from Borah and Hyndman I've never seen another person on a summit in Idaho.
On the way out I stopped by (soft-ranked) Peak 7867, then took the trail down to Kelly Gulch.
Climbed from Red Elephant Mine ascending the ridge from the southeast. Very nice weather.

This was a great season warm up. I climbed this with Nick Karl and LT good company and a great mix of weather. recomended as a fun early season climb

Smoky in Smoky Mountains
Would be great views of the Pioneer Range on a clear day. Could barely make out Smoky Dome, but still a nice little ridge run once you make it. Came up from Red Elephant Mine, quick round trip. This is the mountain that is square in front of you when you drive north up Blue Lakes Boulevard in Twin Falls.

Snowshoe Loop
Made a nice snowshoe loop highlighted by Kelly Mountain. This one caught our attention from Johnstone Peak a couple months ago, it really dominates the southern Smokies. Cool views of the Camas Prairie.Here’s a trip-report and some photos.
