Winter's a comin! Maybe? Hopefully soon?  Sucess!

Supposedly this was a coveted "winter" ascent. Less snow now than there was in November! Weather moved in at the trailhead. Climbed, summited, and descended in a white out.

Winter  Sucess!

Great winter climb, Torreys Peak looks great in winter from this viewpoint! Although a warm and sunny day, the winds were just ripping and blowing snow all around.

South ridge  Sucess!

Made a big loop on a bluebird day by going up the south ridge of Kelso, across Kelso Ridge to Torreys, over to Grays, down the south ridge of Grays to Ruby. Long day but avoided the huge masses of people on the trail. Some fun scrambling on the lower portion of the south ridge of Kelso. Don't skirt the buttress on the Grizzly Gulch side. Too loose!

Finally ticked this one off  Sucess!

5/14/09 - Parked around 10,700 ft on the Stevens Gulch Road and utilized the avy chute on the north side of the mountain. Very efficient route in the spring - 2400 ft in 1 mile!

3/14/12 - Loop over Ganley, McClellan, Edwards & Kelso from Bakerville.

Northeast Ridge  Sucess!

Lacking guidebooks, or anything else, thought we were on Grays/Torreys. Oops! Returned the following weekend to climb the "right peaks!" Anyway - we got a summit!

Met MountainHikerette  Sucess!

It was on this hike I met MountainHikerette. She had just moved to Colorado and already knew she wanted to climb all the fourteeners. She was on her way up Grays via Stevens Gulch. A friend & I were doing Kelso. We exchanged information. I had already climbed all the fourteeners. I got to do all of them again! We returned to Kelso on 8-26-01. On 6-30-07 we climbed Kelso again as part of the Dexter search party. http://www.14ers.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=7091

Running the Gauntlet  Sucess!

I checked local avalanche forecasts to be sure the danger was low before climbing Kelso. Halfway up, I heard a loud "thunk" as the top snow layer collapsed under my weight. Luckily, there was no sliding. The "thunk" was loud enough to scare the @#$% out of me, though. I continued on to the summit, then slid on my butt down the whole slope. Kelso has an awesome no-worry run-out.

Climbed by accident?  Sucess!

Summiting Kelso just happened! I was only trying to get up high above the Stevens Gulch trail to get a better view of the trail to Grays, not knowing that a named summit was above. Boy was I surprised! Sign-in register and everything.

NW Ridge  Sucess!

Climbed Kelso Ridge to Torrey's summit. Trail ran back down into the valley to Kelso NW Ridge solo. I made this route as hard as I could. It is possible to make it 4th class. Lots of loose rock. From summit, descended s. slopes. Ran back to car all in about 5 hours.

Trio of Thirteeners  Sucess!

Climbed Kelso with Ben on a great day. We ascended the Goatfinger coulouir on Edwards, went over to McClellan and then all the way over to Kelso to have a nice afternoon nap on the summit.

From Boulder  Sucess!

So, not having a car, and wanting to climb...I rode my bike from Boulder, climbed some unnamed couloir on Kelso's west face (I believe it is the one with the visible stream on the topo), summited Kelso, followed Kelso Ridge to Torreys, traversed to Grays, and glissaded down. Great trip! Although, riding with gear is pretty arduous!

South Ridge  Sucess!

Flew in from Chicago Friday night and slept at the TH. Parked just past the old saw mill on Saturday morning, snowshoed in and camped below the mine shack. Climbed Kelso Mountain in the afternoon as a warm-up for Torreys Peak. Woke up early and climbed the Dead Dog Couloir on Torreys the following day. The South Ridge is a fun easy hike with great views of Kelso Ridge on Torreys.

Torreys Kelso Saddle  Sucess!

Climbed this peak after being turned back from Edwards/McClellan by fog and icy conditions. Probably would have been a nice view if the summit hadn't been in the clouds.

Great Solitude  Sucess!

Climbed via the Torrey's/Kelso saddle. The long ridge was a great little hike, I would recommend this hike to anyone wanting a superb view of Torreys with out the crowds!
