Climbed Kelso Ridge with some people I met the previous weekend in the San Juans. I haven't had too much class 3 experience, so this was a good start.
Pretty sweet, relaxing climb. It's kind of cool to get on the summit and see all the people struggling up the dog route. There will likely be only a few parties on this route making it enjoyable to get away from the masses.
A very interesting scramble. It is neat to watch all the folks down on the regular trail.
Cool route, some loose stuff. Got caught in a thunderstorm up high.
Part of a 12 fourteeners in 6 days spree. Still one of my most favorite ridge climbs.
Did with a group of grad school friends back in 2005. Summited Grays after going over the knife edge to reach Torreys. Roped up for one of the class 4 sections. Fantastic weather!
Late start, storm up high, lots of snow on route. Almost as rough as the last time.
Fun climb with winter conditions. Definitely a new favorite, cant wait to do Dead Dog and Lost Rat now.
Climbed this with my roommate, a good ridge to play on.. conditions made it even more enjoyable, next up is dead dog!
Way better than the hike to the saddle
Very nice ridge. Knife edge was great, but not as exposed as reported.
This was a fun little half day outing from Stevens Gulch, a good starter for new scramblers.
Solo. Good stuff, not a soul in sight!
nice interesting scramble
I forget the exact date. I went solo and remember interesting and somewhat exposed mixed climbing followed by a 1300-foot glissade from the saddle.
Climbed Kelso ridge froms Stevens Gulch and then over to Grays. Returned to Kelso ridge from Grizzly Gulch hiking in from I-70 and also getting Grays on 7-15-06. Another climb from Stevens with Grays on 8-4-07.
A great scramble on a warm but windy winter day. Ridge was in great shape. We brought a rope but never needed it. My 2nd time on this route.
Fun route. Total ascents = 5.
Attempted Kelso Ridge on a dubious winter Saturday. We bailed onto the North Ridge after deciding to abort. Trip report is here
Took a long awaited trip up Kelso ridge - the knife edge section and the exit onto the white rock was definitely the highlight of the climb. Watch for loose rock down low on the route, I set loose a rock the size of a microwave that looked well anchored.
