Kendrick Mtn Trail  Sucess!

Very nice and great views of the area. That cabin area would be a great campsite, too.

Route Climbed: Kendrick Peak Trail (south) Date Climbed: June 18, 2005  Sucess!

My wife and I had a great day hike in spectacular clear conditions. The views of Humphreys were amazing. Thoroughly enjoyable day outing. Great campsites in the forest, too!

Kendrick Trail - Date Climbed: many times (summer 2003, 2004, 2005)  Sucess!

As one of the volunteer fire lookouts who worked on the mountain in the summers, I have enjoyed many, many hours of quiet solitude atop this wonderful peak.

Fairly easy climb. Nice and steady all the way up. Took about 2 hours. The ranger at the observation tower at the peak was nice enough to share details on his hermit life (he stays up there a week at a time) and the fire-finding equipment. The view from the peak is beautiful, especially toward Humphreys. It was cool to see the north rim of the Grand Canyon also. This would be a great work out mountain.

As a side note, I took a detour to the Lava River Cave, and that was very impressive. It's definitely worth checking out if you are near Kendrick.

Route Climbed: Pumpkin Trail Date Climbed: 5/26/02  Sucess!

2nd time up Kendrick...this time took the Pumpkin Trail. This is quite a bit more strenuous than the Kendrick Trail and counting the turn-around is in the 11-12 mile range.

The first mile climbs up a ridge that extends to the west of Kendrick. From here it flatens out quite a bit as you slowly climb through the charred remains of the Kendrick Fire to the base of Kendrick. There are some remains of an abandoned wall or cabin just before your final push to the summit. The last, long leg is hardcore steep....and brings you right to the overlook.

Plan on 1/2+ day of hiking....

Route Climbed: Kendrick Trail Date Climbed: 4/13/02  Sucess!

Had a great day...took about 3.5 hours to get to the top with a 35lb pack. Spent the night in the tower with my buddy who was on volunteer fire watch. Saw some wild raptor birds...

Great Views of all of the western half of No. Arizona.

Can only imagine how spectacular the mountain was before the fire...too bad.
