Kennesaw Mountain  Sucess!

Nice views. The place is often busy, but there are other trails that are a bit more remote.

Civil War Trip  Sucess!

Hiked to the top of this in flip-flops. As I "summitted," I realized it was possible to drive to the top. Ha!

First trip to the South  Sucess!

My gf and I took our first trip to the South this summer, and our first stop was Kennesaw Mountain. My great great grandfather (69th Ohio Volunteers/Pioneer Brigade) fought under Sherman in the Army of the Cumberland and saw action here and at Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Stones River, etc.. Great hike but we definitely weren't used to the humidity. Beautiful views and certainly enjoyed the cannons. This was our first stop on our trip to Chickamauga, Chattanooga, and the Smoky Mountains.

a big city small gem  Sucess!

It's hard to believe that a place like this could exist so close to the Greater Atlanta area. Easy climb up and a beautiful day for it.

Made it  Sucess!

From the top parking lot. Dad wouldn't have made the whole hike.

Back for more  Sucess!

It's nice to know that in suburban Atlanta there is a mountain to hike ten minutes away.

From Parking area along road  Sucess!

My wife and I were visting her son in Atlanta and decided to get out to see this Civil War site. Really an impressive mountain for the area where you could spend the better part of a day with all the history that goes with it. We hiked over to Little Kennesaw as well.

Via main visitor center trail  Sucess!

Enjoyed a crisp, blue-sky day on this trail. Very sobering history permeating the site. Enjoyed the views through the bear trees. Green grass was just starting to pop up through the old leaves left over from autumn. Very nice outing. Hiking partners: Joo-Hi an Troy.

Great climb  Sucess!

Best climb near metro Atlanta - see a lot of hikers "training" with large packs on every weekend. Great place to trail run with over 17 miles of trail.

Good Training  Sucess!

Best hill around Atlanta for a backpacking workout. Most of the folks hiking to the top seem to look at you funny when you have a large pack on. Haven't had much of a chance to explore the place but there are plenty of nice trails other than just the route to the top.

Great Workout. Nature. What's Not to Love?  Sucess!

Used to live about 5 miles away and would make a quick trip to the top a couple of times a week. If you want a quick burn, it's the place to go.

Great w/ the long loop  Sucess!

I've climbed Kennesaw several times. It's an quick climb if you just go for the summit. There are nice views of Atlanta from the top. For a more enjoyable hike, start at the main visitor center and hike out to Colb farm and back again. It's about 16 miles round trip.

Multiple Ascents  Sucess!

I hiked to the top two or three times with friends while I was living in Atlanta in the late 90's. Fun little hike.

Route Climbed: Main Route Date Climbed: 27 November 2005  Sucess!

I climbed it on a nice fall afternoon threatening rain which kept the crowds away, but obscured the views. Climbed to the top, Little Kennesaw, and looped around for about 5 miles. The park has about 18 miles of trails, some of which are little used.

There are numerous ways up and around. Put a pack on and this is good training for any trips planned out west.

Route Climbed: main trail from Viz Center Date Climbed: September 11, 2005  Sucess!

Hot as blue blazes, half a million people (mostly kids), and so much haze I couldn't even see Marietta. At least the dog enjoyed it. I won't return.

Oh yeah, saw a deer ... in the middle of Atlanta, a deer.
