Did the Western Breach via Machame and Arrow Glacier. Camped in the crater and explored the Ash Pit and Furtwangler glacier. Had perfect weather except for ascent of the breach. Lots of wind, snow and cold on that day. Watched the sunrise on the summit. Altogether one the best treks I have ever taken
Did the 7 day Machame route which gives plenty of time to acclimate. We were beating our porters to camp at times and we were on the summit by 5:30 a.m., it was way too cold and windy to try and wait for sunrise. Also my flash was frozen so I have no summit pics which is sorta sad. We went through the Marangu Hotel on a private climb which was really nice becuase we could move at our own pace. I highly reccomend spending the money on a bathroom tent, it was well worth the $140 and an extra porter.
Such an amazing hike. Many thanks to Tusker Trails. We took the Lemosho Route. Great feeling to reach the top of Africa with my dad and new friends.
Great trip. Did the 7 day option. Summit day hard. On way down guide persuaded us to carry on to lower camp than normal (saying it wasn't far!). It was blinking miles - we did 42km in all on summit day! and my left knee has never been the same since. Perfect weather on summit day - awesome
One of the most enjoyable trek I've ever done so far :)
Marangu route, good weather, ill on descent (something I ate!)
nice trip but the weather sucked.. didnt see anything from the summit.
From monkeys and biting ants in the jungle, through diverse scenery between and every camp to the unearthly scenes above Barafu, Lemosho Route delivers hour after hour. The acclimitization afforded bby this route enabled daily singimg and dancing. Perfect summit day weather AND, we left Barafu to summit at 06:00, not in the middle of the night. Topped off with safari to Lake Manyara, Serengeti and NN Crater. Went with Kilimanjaro Brothers, the happiest bunch of dancing and singing staff on the mountain.
February of 2011 with a dozen other people from my venture crew- took an extra day at Horombo to acclimatize and hiked to zebra rocks (definitely recommend an extra day for it alone). Great conditions, the receding glaciers were a sad sight. Wish I would have known there were so many rocks to boulder though!
Walked in thru. jungle on Lemosho route starting walking on 16/09/11 after registration at Londrossi Gate, Camp 1 Mkubwa 2750m next day trek over the Shira ridge to camp 2 (Shira 1)3550m. Day 3 climb Shira Cathedraw peak 3750m to aid acclimatisation then trek to camp 3 Shira at 3840m. Day 4 ascend to Lava Tower 4600m below arrow glacier route, but decend to camp 4 Barranco at 3900m. Following day, day 5 ascend Barranco wall (great scramble) then easy walk to camp 5 Karanga 4000m. Day 6 medium walk to base camp prior to summit attempt camp 6 at Barafu 4600m. From here start summit attempt (day 7) at 0005 hours to Stella point for sunrise at 0600 hours 5735m then finally along crater rim reaching Kibo (Uhura peak)summit at 0710 hours. 5895m magnificent! Descend after 20 mins on summit, to camp 7 Millenium camp 3800m after first stopping at barafu camp for about an hour for brew and recovery time-Long day!! Final day (8) decend from millenium camp to Mweka Gate at 1650m and book out of national park. Brilliant Route well reccommended expedition.
Rain and fog all the way to Barafu then perfect conditions to the summit! Plus a great safari afterwards
6 night 7 day route. Slept in the crater.
6 nights in changing weather, very few tourists on the route, five-six on my itinerary. A great trip up to a freezing snow covered sunny summit, with great views and nature.
Exciting Machame route trek. Top summited at 06:17 am in strong freezing wind.
Climbed Machame route with Sunny Safaris. Had a great trip. Overall good weather with rain just the first day.
Climbed Machame route with IMG. Amazing experience.
did the hike with Concern Challenges (charity group), organised by Action Challenge with co-operation with tanzanian Ahsante Tours. Brilliant people, well experienced guides and great organisation. 32 out of 37 hikers made it to the top. The hardest challenge of my life...seriously.
Climbed Kilimanjaro via Machame route. Nice scenery and easy trail!
Did the Machame route with Zara tours. It rained every single day. It was our guide's 210 summit. He said of all of them our summit day was the most snowy and cold of them all. Our guide also guided Chelsea Clinton.
Felt like I was cheating with porters, but I joined the trip last minute with a group of inexperienced trekkers! Still was an amazing experience, and definitely stoked my interest in making other big ascents.
Lucked out with gorgeous summit weather, clear -8C and dead calm.
