Cold but a great experience
Marango route with REI. Well organized and 11 of 13 made it to Uhuru Peak. Good climb, but cloudy, 10 degrees and wind at top.

Did the 7 day Machame route. Also went out with our guides in Moshi afterwards to celebrate our summit and had an amazing time.

Machame
Went up the Machame route in 6 days/5 nights. Kilimanjaro is NOT easy! Previous days to the summit are quite doable, even though I went from Barranco to Barafu in one day, but the summit day was grueling, and we didnĀ“t even have it windy or really cold (-10 the most).

Machame route
Lots of fun, although not as scenic as Mt. Kenya.

great view
We are a group of friends of 12. 100% success rate. Machame route
Started off for Western Breach route, but change of plans due to inadequate camping gear. Summited exactly at sunrise. Good views but very cold.

Western Breach
Did the Western Breach via Machame and Arrow Glacier. Camped in the crater and explored the Ash Pit and Furtwangler glacier. Had perfect weather except for ascent of the breach. Lots of wind, snow and cold on that day. Watched the sunrise on the summit. Altogether one the best treks I have ever taken

Christmas present
Did the 7 day Machame route which gives plenty of time to acclimate. We were beating our porters to camp at times and we were on the summit by 5:30 a.m., it was way too cold and windy to try and wait for sunrise. Also my flash was frozen so I have no summit pics which is sorta sad. We went through the Marangu Hotel on a private climb which was really nice becuase we could move at our own pace. I highly reccomend spending the money on a bathroom tent, it was well worth the $140 and an extra porter.

Rongai Route
Great trip. Did the 7 day option. Summit day hard. On way down guide persuaded us to carry on to lower camp than normal (saying it wasn't far!). It was blinking miles - we did 42km in all on summit day! and my left knee has never been the same since. Perfect weather on summit day - awesome

Lemosho Route
From monkeys and biting ants in the jungle, through diverse scenery between and every camp to the unearthly scenes above Barafu, Lemosho Route delivers hour after hour. The acclimitization afforded bby this route enabled daily singimg and dancing. Perfect summit day weather AND, we left Barafu to summit at 06:00, not in the middle of the night. Topped off with safari to Lake Manyara, Serengeti and NN Crater. Went with Kilimanjaro Brothers, the happiest bunch of dancing and singing staff on the mountain.
February of 2011 with a dozen other people from my venture crew- took an extra day at Horombo to acclimatize and hiked to zebra rocks (definitely recommend an extra day for it alone). Great conditions, the receding glaciers were a sad sight. Wish I would have known there were so many rocks to boulder though!
