Rongai route, 'unsupported'  Sucess!

Climbed over 6 days. I climbed 'unsupported' with no porters or cook. Guide was mandatory. Preparing and hauling all food, gear, water and setting my own climbing schedule made the hike very rewarding. I made the decision to climb to the summit in daylight, which worked out wonderfully. I left Kibo Huts at 7:20 a.m. and reached Uhuru peak at 12:25 p.m.

Machame Route

Did 6 days on the Machame Route. Every day was easy but the last one. Reaching Stella Point was the hardest thing I have ever done. Can't say the trip was a failure without the true summit, but won't say that I am not disappointed in how everything turned out. I did everything wrong on summit day. Over ate the night before, did not drink enough and went way to fast even though I was asking to slow down. Tried to do it on the cheap, and it was an expensive lesson. One tip on the tips. Make certain you determine what they are prior to commencing the climb. It will save a lot of headaches afterward.

On the Roof of Africa!  Sucess!

Trekked up through the 4 different climate zones and different tree forests on the Lemosho side. Picked up a little Swahili from the ZARA porters along the way. 7 days of tent camping in luxury. Acclimatization schedule is pretty descent with a Lava tower excursion on day 3. Barranco wall is class 2 scramble in places. Was fine with the euphoria above 15k on summit day! Spent lots of time on the 19K summit for congratulations, watching sunrise, taking pictures of a shrinking glacier, and reapplying sunblock. Dusty trail on descent, with light winter wind. Enjoy!

Machame 6 Day climb  Sucess!

Planned the entire trip by phone and internet through Zara in Moshi. Trip was outstanding from start to finish. Took a chance on the rainy season ending early to avoid crowds on the way to the summit. Ascended via Machame; only rained 1 day on the mountain so gamble paid off. My local guide Daniel assembled a great team and we summitted right on schdule. Looking forward to a return trip in a few years with my son once he gets older.

Lemosho 9  Sucess!

We had a great trek on the Lemosho 9 day route. I was very happy with every aspect of our climb. On the 3 day when my energy was low the guide started telling some stories. This helped pass the time. Our full group of 5 made it to the summit with out having to be carried up or using oxygen. I would highly recommened E-Trip Africa. The pre-trip info was very usefull and their on the ground team really is well organized. Also they provide the portable toilet and toilet tents on all of the treks.

Rongai Route @ Mount Kilimanjaro  Sucess!

The 6 day climb is very easy, except for the summit day. That is difficult. I highly suggest purchasing fox fur mittens as I was the only one in my group that had toasty hands and never had to use hand warmers.

Machame Route  Sucess!

I am so glad I didn't listen to the naysayers. Yes, there are a lot of people. No, this is not a mountain to go to for solitude and hardcore climbing. But for most of us mere mortals, it is a rare opportunity to walk on high above the clouds and admire a glacier-covered summit near the equator. The mountain is generous and accomodating, as are the people. Thank you, Kilimanjaro, and thank you, local Tanzanians who chose to share their treasure with us.

Marangu Route  Sucess!

Went on a mission trip to Kenya and then went to Tanzania to clime the mountain. We had 25 people in the group so we had to go on the Marangu Route. Personally I would have liked to go up over the glaciers but maybe next time. Due to the large group of climbers that hadn't climbed anything before it was decided to take 6 days to climb it so it was a relaxed and enjoyable climb. Especially with the porters cooking and staying in the huts. Not what I would call a real mountaineering climb. The views ware amazing. Made it on the summit for sunrise witch was nice. All considered Mt. Shasta Avalanche Gulch was harder than this. Also 20 people in our group made the summit and most of them had never climbed any high altitude mountains.

6d Umbwe Route  Sucess!

Umbwe is a very nice route going straight up through all vegetation zones and it is not very crowded. Wanted to do the Western Breach with overnight stay at the crater but one of our group of three felt a bit weak so we detoured to Machame and summited via Stella Point.
