Machame  Sucess!

Hiked the Machame blindfolded, drunk, and on rollerskates. What a climb.

My first summit!  Sucess!

Hiked up the Machame Route. Trek to the summit was great. We wanted to reach the summit during sunrise but actually got there too early and had to watch it on our descent. My partner and I decided to go back to Moshi that same day - that ended up being very painful!

Lemosho-Crater Route  Sucess!

We climbed with Kiliwarriors and were very pleased - I would highly recommend them. Had a great trek and a great day at the summit!

Marango  Sucess!

Nice treking until Kibo hut. There were to many people but after Kibo only 8 continue to Uhuru peak. Started at midnight on the summit in 06;45 me and four other friends. The feeling was just perfect. So far it is my attutude record.
Thanks Kili for give me this chance.

Umbwe Route  Sucess!

The Umbwe route is not nearly as hard and steep as advertised. I recommend it, especially if you want to avoid crowds the first couple days. We decided to summit directly from Karranga Valley camp during the daytime. With a daytime summit, you sacrifice the sunrise at the summit, but get warmer temps and much, much less wind, and you get the summit all to yourselves. On day 5, we went from Karranga (7 a.m.) to Barafu (9 a.m.); rested until about 11 a.m. before starting up toward Uhuru Peak (got there at 4:45 p.m.); we finally came back to Barafu camp (7 p.m.) to sleep. I have a complete trip report up here:

marangu route

Climbed as part of and the least attractive, challenging and memorable of the three peaks by a long way! Worth doing, but bear in mind it's a) very pricey and b) like a high altitude Disneyland. We were too fast for our guide, which kind of negated the point of having one. Great summit views. But I won't be back!

Rongai route  Sucess!

Did the remote and less traveled Rongai route from the north, joining the Marangu route at Kibo hut. Weather was great until summit day when winds picked up with some light snow. Went with guides Amani and Win Foot from Zara, very highly recommended. Felt a little dazed with the altitude above 18K, but no problems. Poli Poli!

Machame Route  Sucess!

I climbed Kilimanjaro with Torie, Jim, Abe, and Zara guides Msafiri and Joseph. We followed the Machame route and summited on the 6th day. Our team reached Stella Point at 4:15am and Uhuru Peak at 5am, well before sunrise and the hoards of other climbers. It was 10(F) on the summit. We had intended to hike to the ash pit afterwards, but between the sleep deprivation and cold temps, we unanimously agreed to skip it. We were content to watch the sunrise from Stella Point, which was most memorable. We picked the one good day during the whole week to summit. There was not a cloud in the sky until after we had descended back to camp.

Honeymoon  Sucess!

Lisa and I climbed Kili for our honeymoon! We went in by the Rongai and came out by Marangu. Quite a few people on the summit the same day as us, lots more didn't make it though.

Route Climbed: Marangu  Sucess!

I started 6.15 am and reached the summit at 9.50 am from Kibu hut. The ascent was quick and comfortable with stabile weather conditions. The sun peeked out a few times, but the summit approach from Gillan's point was a little chilly. It took me just below 6 hours for the whole climb (up and down) which was the inital plan. Of our group of 3 people all of us made it.

We took a deciscion not to go with any porters or cooks on the approach march nor on the climb itself. A single guide accompanied us because of park regulations forced us to do so. Our permit allowed us to spend a total of 4 days in the park to make a summit bid.

The total amount that we spended on park fees and guide was $1080 for 3 people compared to regular fees of approx. $700 per person.

wild  Sucess!

starting off under a clear night with a full moon with the southern cross above and then seeing the wild serengetti plains at first light from the summit will never leave my memory! very strong team of three we also explored the crater and surrounding peaks in the short time we were in the area. I'd recommend doing this and not just the big one.

Uhuru via Marangu  Sucess!

Did the Summit with a group of Russians. Funny place. Lots of people trying the Mountain without any acclimatization.... I don't think it is healthy way. We acclimatized on Mount Kenya and had no altitude problems on Kili.

Machame in a Blizzard  Sucess!

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!!!! It was hard waking up at midnight and then being coherent, but apparently it works.
We had white-out conditions from even before Stella's point. We definitely earned our summit.

Rongai Route  Sucess!

Ah, my first taste of thin-air. After completing Kenya ten years earlier, Kili became a niggling 'must do sometime' mountain. Like Kenya, it was great to be able to make this climb with Caroline. It was another great African experience.

Machame  Sucess!

Jan 2-7 2006 on the Machame Route. Great trip, although we were on the mountain during the tragic rock slide. All 3 in our group successfuly summited, although, starting our summit bid at 12am, we only took 5 hours to summit and reached the highest point in the dark at 5am! No views!

Great Climb  Sucess!

Recently climbed Kili, it was a wonderful trip. Besides the fact it rained everyday, I couldn't have asked for a better trip. Destination Africa Tours was a great tour company, on-time, professional, and not expensive. From the picked at the airport to the hotel on the first and last night, these guy are top shelf.
