Blizzard at Summit!  Sucess!

On the evening we approached the summit, the moon was shining bright and we could see the sister peak. However, as soon as we reached the rim, the weather turned on us. The winds were 30+ mph and you couldn't see more than a few feet in front of you. Sadly, it ended as soon as we were on our descent. Too bad it didn't end when we reached the peak so that we could see the glacier.

Success!  Sucess!

4 days up on the Machame route and 2 days down on the Mweka. Gareth, Mark, Nick and I along with our two guides Jon and Jon reached the summit at 5:20 am December 10th. I'm proud to say that I carried all my own personal gear excluding food. A very fun trip and a dream come true! Take a look at the Trip Report.

Amazing  Sucess!

By far, the biggest mountain I've ever seen. Hiked the Machame Route. Couldn't help but look at Mawenzi in amazement.

Seven days on Kilimanjaro  Sucess!

We made the Machame-route in a seven days hike. In the beginning lots of rain and fog but up at the highcamps clear skies. Left Barafucamp at 23:50 and summited at 06:30 together with Johan Dahlström and our guides Carlson and Mike. We booked through Adventures Within Reach. Very well arranged. A great experience!

Machame  Sucess!

Nice hike in "pole pole" motion with Vendulka. I thought it would be much harder. Cold on the summit though. Glad we could make the trip before the glaciers totally melt...

Made it up the Machame!  Sucess!

Had really bad weather for the first 3 days. All gear was soaked and we doubted we would make it. But we got an hour of sunshine on the fourth day which was enough to dry our stuff out and boost morale. Unbelievable views from the summit! Sidenote: don't use Sunny Safaris, their gear is crap and our handler was downright dishonest.

Marangu Route

Did the climb in 4 days, but reached the summit in a total whiteout so missed all the views from the top.

Rongai  Sucess!

Climbed with Roy Safaris. Only person in my group to summit, most likely as I had acclimitised on Mt Kenya.

Rongai- Marangu 6 day route  Sucess!

Climbed from Kibo hut following a long snake of headlamps to the top- pole pole style. Made it to summit in nice weather, although I wasn't in too great a condition to enjoy it. Climbed with Africa Walking Company, all 8 of us made it to Uhuru! Thanks to Obote, Wilfred, Hans, and Henry our guides.

A truly gigantic mountain. Can't believe how many people were there. No problems getting to the top. Trip report coming soon.

Success on Marangu Route  Sucess!

My wife and I had a successfull trip with Good Earth Tours. We had great weather and a great time. It was a-lot harder than we anticipated and I am so proud of my wife for sticking it out.

kili  Sucess!

Very nice dirt trail all the way to the top. Just make sure not to get altitude sick. Slow and steady is the key.

Rongai-Marangu via Mowenzi Tairn  Sucess!

Summitted before sunrise, and missed most of the sunrise as the fog came in. Long summit day, all the way down to Mandara.

AMS @ 15'000'

Hiked the Machame Route with Zara. GREAT trip despite getting too sick to make it out of the tent on the summit day. Nasty case of AMS...just nasty. I was dizzy, ...my vision blurred as if I was seeing everything through a frosted piece of glass. Naturally, I felt fine after decending 1,500'. I would recommend Zara to anyone.

Marangu (Coca-Cola) Route  Sucess!

Definitely feeling like a poseur for posting on the Marangu Route.

I may have been colder and more tired, but I don't remember when. Although steep and muddy and perhaps grueling in their own way, by far the assault on the summit was most difficult. Incredibly steep and biting cold until the sun finally came up. Several of us were so tired we fell asleep sitting on rocks waiting for members of our party to catch up.

By far the challenge was mostly mental. I have no doubt that those in our party who turned back could have made it if they supressed those inner demons.

Beautiful glaciers, summit resembles some sort of lunar surface.

Umbwe route  Sucess!

Joint expedition with SP member Danny Gee. In fact, we attempted to climb a technical route via the Heim glacier, but had to retreat due to the horrible conditions - very bad quality ice, rock fall, ice fall, melting water dropping down from the galcier above, snow showers, ... Summited via the Barafu route two days later. Very strong wind, a couple of times it was difficult to maintain balance on the trail. Damned cold (windchill!). Lots of snow at the summit, all the crater area was covered with snow.
