Jeep Road  Sucess!

Hiked up the jeep road and it rained a little bit on my way up. The sun came out when I got to the top. Nice hike with great views and a fun scramble at the end. Saw 2 desert tortoises on my down close to the car. Great day!

Lazy tourist route  Sucess!

Headed up here with Mom & Dad for a telescope tour. Pretty fascinating place! Headed toward the 4m telescope with mom then peeled off for the summit. Pretty summit with dynamite views! Always a treat to hang out in Southern Arizona.

great views  Sucess!

Parked at mile post 9 and walked the road to the summit. Pretty impressive telescopes, and great views. True summit is 50 ft N of the largest telescope.

Didn't have a clue..  Sucess!

Back in 1995, I drove to the top and didn't have any idea where
the true summit was, until I asked somebody.

The white Granite outcrops were impressive, and really stand out
among the "brown-tinted" surroundings.

I read that "light pollution" from neighboring Tucson has been
kept to a minimum, but that will probably change in a few more
years.

Second Visit, But First Best  Sucess!

This is the date of my second visit because that was easy for me to research. But, it was my first visit a year earlier that was most memorable. I was there with several USAF coworkers and we got caught in an extremely intense thunderstorm. It was reminiscent of that famous photo of the telescopes with lightning all around. We were held up in the Mayall 4-meter observatory waiting out the storm. Afterward, the top of the mountain was almost magical. The storm clouds were still all around, the ground was soaked. I felt as if the gods were letting us have a brief look into their kingdon. It was my most intense "mountain top" experience ever (and why I've made this entry, despite driving to the top). And there I was without my camera! --mark d.

Kitt Peak  Sucess!

Took the jeep road from the bottom. Good work-out to the top. Fun scrambling the last bit to the top and very interesting to see all of the telescopes.

386  Sucess!

I took the easy way up but I paid a little bit for it as my 20 minute hike was in the middle of storm. I couldn't even see the telescope from the summit even though it is like 100 feet away.

Ladybugs  Sucess!

I remember being up here during the season were there are millions of lady bugs. You can literally scoop up handfuls of the pretty little bugs.
