Tri Studničky - Kriváň - Jamské pleso - Tri Studničky  Sucess!

First time. Wonderful view on the High and Western Tatras. Snow was already present (about 60 cm on the south slopes), had to take care on the ridge section. Not many people climbed that day.

Sweating like a Pig  Sucess!

It was a very hot summer day in 1998 when I made my way up to the Krivan peak. I lost a lot of water and used up all my water (several bottles) I carried in my backpack. I had to fill up my bottles several times on my way down at spring wells, whenever I came across them.

From Strbske Pleso  Sucess!

We went to Krivan on a quite nice day. As it was our first tour in the Tatras we were extremely surprised seeing many people hiking in sport shues.
We were told it is THE mountain of the Slavs... And that also includes us! Again we were surprised as we had first heard of this mountain some two or three days before.

Tri Studnicky  Sucess!

Started: half past six and we were on the summit at 10. Nice, easy tour. Upper part was exhausting. The top was above the white clouds. There was nobody on the top, till 10 minutes then it was crowded. Perfect day.

From Strbské Pleso  Sucess!

We went to Krivan to see and feel the change of season. A cold front came from the north, at a very high speed, and when we reached the ridge, powerful gusts of wind tried to push us down from the mountain. Wind speed was approx. 80-100 km/h, with gusts even faster... We could hardly stand against it! On the lower sections we got a lot of rain, higher it changed to ice and snow. Finally reached the summit at about noon, it was covered by clouds. We decided to go down quickly, as we wanted to avoid freezing of the route, which could trap us on the mountain. On the ridge, the wind was fierce again... But we arrived down successfully, it was a really adventurous trip.

Round trip: Tri Studnicky - Krivan - Jamske pleso - Tri Studnicky  Sucess!

Ascent from Tri Studnicky on the green marked trail. Descent on the blue trail to Jamské pleso, then back to Tri Studnicky on Magistrala. (Trail marking is among the best in Europe!) I was terrified to see the destruction made in the forest by the great storm on 19 November 2004.
Unfortunately the summit was in clouds, but despite the forecast of storms lot of sun on the way, and many people on the summit. A place where you are never alone :)
The climb was nice, but 5 hours driving from Budapest in the morning and the same back in the evening really wore me out!

check the routes week before the national ascent to Krivan  Sucess!

Rainy and foggy morning prevented the neatly cold day from the risk of storms. I ascended it with my younger sister, a superb hiker and no-problem mountain partner. We went up from Tri Studnicki in 2 hours 30 minutes without a hurry. We gratly enjoyed the whole hike. Clouds sat at the summit, but for some excitemently moments wind blew clouds higher and we could see even Lomnicky stit and Jahnaci stit at the other (eastern) edge of High Tatras range. On the way down it rained. AN IMPORTANT NOTE: the trail from Jamske pleso to Tri studnicki is almost impassable due to the forestry works!! National ascent of Slovaks to Krivan is going to take place at 19th and 20th august 2006. For more info, click this link (only in slovak): www.matica.sk/IUMS/krivan06.html .Long term weather forecast says it may rain and the risk of dangerous storms is not out.

We set out from Tri Studnicky with my mom and older sister, we had beautiful weather - not too warm, not too cold. My mom however got a hypoglycemia so we tried to stuff her with chocolate. It didn't work. So we decided my sister would stay with her while I reach the summit and come back. I literally ran up and down. On the way down I met them as they were climbing up. My mom had a piece of bread and that gave her strenght. So I joined them and went up again. It was a great trip, I was perfectly exhausted. Hope to get there again.

Despite somebody may misunderstand it, I simply admire this magnificent mountain, to which is added my admire to the fact, that Krivan played a pretty huge role in evolution of our nations.

About the weather I experienced: 3 times view was broad and any peak was visible, once view was only partly and twice I could see nothing more, than my mates.
