I hate...to see these old fire lookouts left to wither away like that. Especially when they can still be used for back country camping. Lots of people don't mind paying to rent the ones that are preserved and kept in a good state of repair.

Some of them have been getting vandalized. I'm guessing that probably happened to the lookout, usually if the forest service does it they clean up the whole thing not just leave it laying there like whoever did it to Elk Mountain's lookout.
