In one day..
Easy or not it's still challenging if you do it in one day from parking lot.

Easy Walk
Walked this route with Sarah Simon, SenadR and our guide, Sal. Some easy scrambling involved. Made more interesting since it was done in the dark.

Relatively Solo
I was "allowed" to cut loose from the guide at the 2nd hut and continued to summit and descent solo. Absolutely beautiful! Love the rolling terrain. Bummer that clouds engulfed the summit just a minute after I arrived, but I saw it plenty on the way up and down. Great day to be out and get this done in a day.

Close But No Cigar
Turned back 500' from the summit due to lack of daylight remaining.

Sun Ridge Route
Great route. I found the part between the Grupo de los Cien hut and the Mendez hut the hardest part, it had many trails, some leading nowhere. Great views untill about 10.30, then cloudy.
My first "big" mountain was Ixta. Fairly straight forward climbing. A few areas required scrambling. No crampons or ice axe needed. To my surprise and delight I had absolutely no problems with altitude.

sun walking
lovely route. i found myself wondering through some enchanted place while crossing La Barriga.
try to spend a night in amecameca to catch the sun on this ridge at sunrise; it's one of those things you have to see to believe.

arriba!
I stayed at the Grupo de Los Cien hut. It was about 4 hours up from La Joya. The hut filled up quick and tents sprung up all around. Looked to be 3 youth groups there. From the hut, another 4 hours to the summit which I started around 04:30 or so.
I had ice axe and crampons but never used the crampons and the axe was just a cane. But still, a great mountain.
