From Pavon to Fortaleza to Erquito and back
Started from Pavon and climbed Fortaleza in full force winds - scary on the north-east ridge. Searched for the descent route into Barranco de Erque and finally found it near Degollada de la Fortaleza. Extremely steep descent through cacti with qquite a number of easy rocky sections. Hiked up the other side of the Barranco, which is as steep. Finally traversed the upper end of the canyon to return to Degollada de Fortaleza and Pavon

First of Two
Climbed Fortaleza de Chipude, then traversed Barranco del Erque and headed for Garajonay. Imperfect weather on to, Teide could only bee seen through holes in the fast moving clouds.

Route Climbed: Normal from Chipude
Florence and I loved the scrumble way up to the Fortaleza. I tried the descend thru the steep south ridge but stop at the last part. Scary and exposed without rope. Climbing Fortaleza was an excellent way to start the year anyhow and set up the tone !.
