Aileron, etc.
Starting at 5:20 a.m., we explored the Aileron route and caldera circuit; later the same day we checked out the Grande Savane route. Most of the pictures on the main page were taken on this date. We seem to have been the only people on the whole upper mountain before 8 a.m., but a dozen parties of late risers were trudging up (into hopeless fog) by mid morning. On the Precheur/Savane side, there seems to have been little or no trail usage all day.
It was interesting to watch the way the clouds envelop the summit. It progressed from one tiny wisp of cloud to a complete cloud cap in about 15 minutes.
