Heavily Overgrown  Sucess!

I have a love/hate relationship with this hike. The first two miles is on a dirt road with nothing of interest. Then, shortly after entering the Lone Peak Wilderness, North Mountain and Lake Hardy trails are HEAVILY overgrown for about the first 1.25 miles on the ascent. While the trail is not hard to follow, it is steep and you're constantly battling the underbrush. My shins were bloody. Wear zip-offs to protect your legs. However, once you get out of the jungle and into the small canyon that leads to the lake, the scenery is amazing. Incredible views of Utah Lake and Mt. Nebo to the south, groves of big pines, and open meadows. And then, after one last steep section, Lake Hardy. Lake Hardy is one of the prettiest spots I've visited on the Wasatch front but it's a pain in the butt to get there.

Overnighter  Sucess!

Did this as a overnighter and loved it. Steep, but over two days not too hard.

Via Schoolhouse Springs  Sucess!

Brutal hike, but worth it. I started at abt. 4pm and didn't find the Lake until around 8, got down at around 11. The way the sunset refelected in rose colors off the granite, which was in turn reflected by the still lake made this trip worth every bit of sweat. Mosquitos are bad tho, don't forget a bit of repellent if you plan on overnighting.

Casie's Beatout  Sucess!

Years ago in the WMC Cassie Badowsky used to lead a hike called Cassie's beatout, (vs the traditional beatout) This was just the beginning, the route would continue onto Chipman and the Phiefferhorn and then descending Red Pine.
