3rd times a charm  Sucess!

After 2 attempts to make it up, and some car trouble, we made it! We parked at the bottom and just walked the road up. Just be aware that the road is gravel/shale so some cars don't want to drive up the whole way. I had a jeep at the time, and it was angry with me and overheated...

Strange trail run on snow  Sucess!

The gate was closed. I ran up the road which was mostly still snow covered. Ran down on the ridge. Nice views.

Israel Canyon road from beginning, as described  Sucess!

Hiked highpoint and the Lake triangulation station, with Wasatch Mt Club group. Although gate was locked shut, we ate the dust of several vehicles that drove around it (clearly closed on November 1, according to vandalized sign). On descent, we had bullets zinging past us from idiots shooting uphill with no backstop.

Lake Mountain Peak  Sucess!

Drove up Israel Canyon 4x4 trail in my Jeep. Reached the summit as well as a peaklet which appeared to be of similar height to the northeast.

Eventual Success  Sucess!

Hiked this peak with three of my friends on an overcast Friday in April. My friend drove us as high as his car could get, then we all jumped out and hiked up the Israel Canyon road. Fairly steep and rocky, but not too bad, we reached the summit after about 2 hours or so. A map is recommended, as the summit area can get a bit confusing, and a printed-out Google Earth map proved quite useful for us. We headed first towards the true summit and, finding the gate open, visited the true summit and Loran station, then wandered south. From there we bushwhacked and hopped through snow in a counterclockwise direction, eventually reaching the point marked "Lake Mountain 2" on USGS maps, where some great views of Utah Lake, in my opinion probably the best around, were to be had. There were to USGS BMs right next to each other for some reason, I can't fathom why. We then headed NNE on the roads back to where the road reaches the summit area, and, after I dashed up to one of the Eastern summits, we slid down steep snow awhile before finally returning to the car. It was a great time, views in all directions were spectacular, I can count the number of people on the mountain besides us on one hand, aside from a few groups of ATVers we saw on the way down. Great feeling of remoteness, the frolicking rednecks at the upper end of Saratoga Springs the only connection to civilization. Great mountain, highly recommended and guaranteed to exceed expectations!

Lake Mountain Peak  Sucess!

Hiked up the snow covered road from Israel Canyon. Awesome views of the Wasatch across Utah Lake. Close to 12 miles round trip with ~ 2500' of gain.

Lake Mountain HP  Sucess!

I hiked the road heading up Israel Canyon from just below the locked gate. As well as the highpoint I went over to the hill with the Triangulation structure on it, made for better summit pics.

Spooky  Sucess!

The top was very spooky looking in dense fog. No precip on the way up, but then at the top it went from a few flurries to snowing hard in a matter of minutes. We parked by the gate and walked up Israel Canyon Road which was in great shape except for a short stretch near the top.

Lake Mtn Peak  Sucess!

There are several points on the large summit plateau. I went to the highpoint and the point with the triangulation station. Good view of Utah Lake and the Wasatch Mountains.

Hidden Surprises  Sucess!

This is one of my favorite view points in Utah County. the view of Utah Lake and Wasatch Mountains is spectacular. I once spent an entire night trapped up on this mountain the evening of the 4th of July. It was awesome to watch the fireworks across the valley. For this I drove up Mercer Canyon and down Israel Canyon. It was disheartening to see the destruction of Israel Canyon, however to watch nature rebuild itself is always amazing. I love the top of this mountain because it has trees like Douglas Fir and Aspens. Things I don't expect to see on a mountain west of the Wasatch at this elevation. The top is just a gorgeous spot, and would be great to camp.

Yeap  Sucess!

Drove up Stillwater Drive into Israel Canyon and found a locked gate at "work your way up another 1.3 miles to where a large area is on the left side of the road" (quote from Getting There section). Walked about a half mile up the road then turned south and followed deer tracks in the snow up to the east/west ridge (which parallels the canyon road). Followed the ridge to its highpoint then turned south and walked to the radio towers. Took 1.5 hours. Noticed the triangulation structure to the east so I wandered over there. From there I headed a bit north and then down the steep east facing hillside to the steep switch back of the road. Walked the road out. Whole trip was 3 hours (with lunch break and all).

Charred mountain...  Sucess!

Drove up Soldier Pass with my passenger vehicle, and the road was pretty well graded. Ground was charred on the south end of Lake Mountain, which I didn't recall, and the it was charred on the north end from the Eagle Mountain dump fire from a few weeks previous. Nice views nonetheless.

I have lots of blub to shed, so I went up to Lake Mountain with Scott and Jun. I can't say I tagged the summit because I turned around about 5 minutes before getting there. 8 miles RT.

Day after snow  Sucess!

This peak is fun, and not too hard, if you follow the Israel Canyon Road. But the views of a lot of famous Utah peaks is incredible. Well worth the trip! I just stood up there and slowly rotated 360 degrees taking in the scenery. It was gorgeous!

Great for training  Sucess!

With Jun32. Attempted to run to the top from the foothills. Went up the wrong canyon, and got into a lot of snow and mud. The summit was not visible due to cloud cover, so we couldn't see where we were and ended up bailing before we reached the top. Total distance covered was just under 8 miles. We will be back for sure soon.

5/8/2010- I ran/hiked from the start of the dirt road with my dog. What a perfect day! 8.48 total miles in 2:05. Made it to the top this time.
6/19/10- Peak #26 for 2010. Half way to my goal of a peak per week (52 total) for the year. With Jun32.
12/7/10- With Jun32 before work. 1:15 up and 1:55 total time.
12/14/10- Before work. Awesome sunrise.
12/28/10- Before work with Jun32 and Matt Van Horn. The fog in the valley made for some cool views.
1/4/11- With Matt V. Had to turn back .5 from the top so we could get into work. We were slowed by all of the post-holing.
1/18/11- Before work with Jun32 and Nate. Great sunrise. Perfect conditons.
2/11/11- With Seth W. and Dan V. Ran most of the way in sub-par conditions. RT 1:48.
2/22/11- Before work with Jun32 and Nate. The summit was COLD.
5/28/11- With MattV. 1:15 up and RT 1:48.
5/31/11- Before work with Jun32 and MattV. 1:02 up and 1:33 total time.
7/20/11- Solo. After doing 8.5 miles in BCC earlier I ran up Lake Mt. Summitted as the sun went down. Got blasted with rain on the descent. 18.1 miles and 5K elevation for the day.
10/30/11- Solo with my dog. 1:07 to the top. 1:45 total time.
11/23/11- With Dan Varga, Davy Crockett, Seth Wold and Matt Van Horn. Great run with some running legends.
12/17/11- With MattV. Started at 11 pm running to the summit of View Benchmark via Ann's trail in Draper. After we finished we ran Lake Mt in well below freezing temps starting at 2:00 am. 16 miles 5K vert.

2/18/12- With Nate Greenwood.
3/15/12- With Jun32
6/9/12- Solo in terrible wind.
