Route Climbed: North Ridge (our own variation) Date Climbed: March 13th, 2004
Great climb! Hiked up to the end of the Chaos Crags the first night. Climbed the peak saturday via a slighlty different route than the planned north ridge. Steep snow, wild terrain! The summit bowl was great too, although I could have done without the giant metal dildo on the higher south summit.
Route Climbed: South Face Date Climbed: August 18, 2001
We blasted past crowds on the trail to reach the summit crater. Mt Shasta, which we had summited 2 days earlier was clearly visible above dense wildfire smoke. We explore the summit a bit before heading down.
Route Climbed: Standard Trail Date Climbed: July 2003
An easy hike with great summit views. Loved the park and will definitely return. Saw one guy who carried his kid all the way to the summit. If only I could find someone to do that...
I know Mt. Lassen is considered nontechnical and doesn't come close to stacking up to peaks like Shasta or Rainier, but it's a fun trip anyway. I try to do a climb of Lassen at least once a year. It is such a great mountain in a magnificent national park. One incredible view north to Shasta and out to the Sacramento Valley from the top. I never get tired of it.
Route Climbed: South Face Date Climbed: Sept. 15, 2003
Easiest climb/hike of all Cascade Volcanos, walked fast ,summited in an hour and jogged downhill , half hour to car . Would like to ski it in the spring . Summited again with 14 yo daughter, she beat my time round trip, 8-11-04
Route Climbed: Lassen Trail Date Climbed: August 8, 2003
What is arguably the easiest big Cascade peak to summit was a really trying time for me. Coming off a badly sprained ankle, I did this hike with my friend, Brian, for the first of this years' annual hiking trip. I suffered through the climb and was really in pain with a re-swollen ankle at the top. Coming down was twice as worse and long. What should have been about a 2 hour round trip turned into 6 for me as an 80 year old woman called Granny passed by me as well as young children. Oh yeah, I did this one in style! Then, afterwards, all the campgrounds were full so we ended up sleeping in the car at a rest stop somewhere east of Susanville on our way to Yosemite. Moral to the story, let your injuries heal!
Having 2 weeks in Sacramento, headed up to Lassen on the weekend. Had some fresh snow and hale up there. The great peak and my first meting with the volcanoes. The whole area is very beatiful and it must a great place to go in winter.
