With Nora  Sucess!

Up the trail with my future wife. I even talked her into continuing on past the end of the trail to the very 'tippy-top'. No wonder I married her.

Labor day snow  Sucess!

Did this on Labor Day 2005, first stop on a big tour of NorCal. Knee deep snow on the summit. Nice hike in those conditions.

South Face couloir  Sucess!

Snowshoed in from the SW entrance, camped at about 8400' below the south face. In the morning got an early start and headed up. Lots of rime ice. Great views of the snowcapped coast range, could even see Shasta. I really enjoy climbing this one in the winter.

Snowshoed in from the SW entrance, camped near saddle between Eagle and Lassen around 8800'. Next morning got an alpine start and headed up SW slope, pretty mellow.

Cold and windy atop summit plateau, but great rime ice formations on the pinnacle. I could see a dark cloud over Shasta off in the distance .. got lucky with the weather.

--
Also did the SE Ridge in March 2008. Snow-camped at 8500' near the summer trailhead (which of course was buried in snow :)

Bleh  Sucess!

Decided to climb this thing in January in snowshoes without skis which proved to be cold and snowy. I would greatly recommend going later in the season.

North side  Sucess!

Since the road is not plowed beyond the chalet on the south side, we climbed from the north. It was great fun.

Good leg stretch  Sucess!

Woke up early and headed up the main trail. Took about an hour, but not many people because it was early and mid-week.

Where did everyone come from?  Sucess!

Hiked the standard trail on a beautiful, WINDY day for great views of the area on my first visit to Mt Lassen Volcanic Park. We drove up from San Francisco so we didn't get an early start by any means (1045AM). I've read the trip reports and posts about the amount of people this mountain sees in the summer, but was still shocked. Not counting people coming down or sitting down next to the trail, I still passed between 65 and 70 people ON THE WAY UP! Considering I can't count much higher than that, I didn't count going back down, but can confirm the parking lot was nearly full.

Fortunately it was very windy at the top, so I found a few moments of solitude for the view.

A lovely day in Lassen Park  Sucess!

We climbed Lassen Peak and went down in 2 hours. We started to feel rain drops and static on the summit. We then went for a swim in Helen Lake and visited Bumpass Hell.

Beautiful, no solitude here though  Sucess!

Beautiful and well worth it, but this was one of those rare hikes where I threw in the iPod earplugs so I could at least pretend I had some solitude in the wilderness. There were plenty of people on the trail, and we could hear traffic from the highway as high as 3/4 of the way up. We easily finished within 4 hours, with plenty of time to explore other areas of the park.

Done in an hour and 10 minutes!  Sucess!

Ran the whole way!
Fell right in front of someone on the way down and gashed my hand, blood spurting everywhere. Awesome.

Also done this in the winter, 7-mile approach, white out on the summit. Best time ever in the snow.

Last Cascade volcano  Sucess!

My last Cascade volcano. The drive from Portland was much longer than the climb, but a fun time was had. The park is like a mini Yellowstone.
