"As an adolescent I aspired to lasting fame, I craved factual certainty, and I thirsted for a meaningful vision of human life - so I became a scientist. This is like becoming an archbishop so you can meet girls."

Climbing NE Face in MayClimbed the North-East face with a party of 3 in early May.
Parked in the devastated area. Started around 6am. Was teaching a friend how to self-arrest and so we ended up taking 8-10 hours to reach the summit and back. Should take <6 hours. The true summit is on the right. We ended up realizing that mid-way through our climb and tried traversing. Probably a better idea to traverse from the top if needed. The last part of the climb is steep. Going from the right is easier.

Southeast Ridge, Starting at Kohm Yah-mah-neeBrought my buddy Donatas. His first mountaineering trip. hiked up the road from the visitor center, carrying snowshoes in hand due to hard pack snow. snowshoed the rest of the way to the summer trailhead. stashed snowshoes and extra stuff in the trees. crampons and axes up the southeast ridge. Perfect weather and conditions. Crystal clear and 360 degree views. long glissades back down and then a long trudge back to the car at the visitor center. 16 miles round trip.

Easy hikeNew trailwork makes Lassen Peak pretty easy. Took 1h 10 minutes to the summit. I was denied 5 years ago due to the trail being closed.

Day Off FunImpromptu speed lap on Lassen for my 4th of July day off.
Fairly crowded since only a few weekends were open this season.
Gaper sightings were unreal!

Lassen Peak TrailMid-morning climb with my 11 year old son, Michael. I was surprised by the absence of any breeze at the summit. Just after we reached the summit, a jet fighter circled the peak at our elevation a couple of times, close enough that we could see the pilot.

Northeast Bowl SnowboardingSnowboarding was awesome, although it was crusty/icy up top and the approach lacked snow. Wrote a trip report (incl. route and conditions) at http://beachyadventures.blogspot.com/2014/05/lassen-peak-snowboarding.html

Winter Ascent from Lake HelenClimbed the SW ridge with a team of nine from Lake Helen base camp. We had a storm the night before but woke up to a gorgeous full moon. An early start put us on the summit around 1030am. We took the old ranger cutoff on the walkout. Much faster and we were back at the cars in 2.5 hours from Lake Helen.

via Lassen Peak TrailI hiked this one with my wife Lori on the last day of 2013 that the Park Service had "opened" the trail (they are in the process of rebuilding it). When we started hiking we were in a cloud bank, but on the way up it cleared off and we had sunny and breezy conditions the rest of the way. Lori made it with me to the end of the maintained trail and then a little further but stopped shy of the actual highest point due to the fact that she wasn't comfortable on the very last steep stretch to the highest point(s). She doesn't consider herself a hiker but she did GREAT!

Southeast Ridge, Starting at Kohm Yah-mah-neeWith the park road closed, I hoofed it up the asphalt as far as the plows had made it so far, then mounted snow shoes to the ridge proper, and finally crampons to the summit. Varying snow conditions all along the route. Saw the tracks of the other two folks who posted their trips earlier this year along with various ski tracks from other hearty souls.
