Nice Hike with Jobe Wymore. From the highpoint also ventured off to do the wilderness HP. Did Brokeoff Mountain later in the day.
Spent a few hours in the morning hiking Brokeoff, hiked Bumpass Hell with my family midday, and then spent a little under a couple hours hiking the easy, revamped Lassen Peak trail. The park was incredibly busy for Labor Day weekend with full parking lots in most places and cars lining both sides of the road for nearly a mile in the Bumpass Hell area.
Many late afternoon hikers were on Lassen, which was a breeze with consistently easy and smooth switchbacks.
After being up there so many times in summer, I need to try a winter/spring snow climb there.
Climb to the summit with my two daughters (age 13).
Good trail, busy in the afternoon. Bring jackets and sturdy boots. Go early in the morning to bet the heat. Other than that 10/10
i wanted to have a look at all the work that they have been doing on the Trail.
All five of is made it up. The trail was busy on our way down. A wonderful day.
Climbed the North-East face with a party of 3 in early May.
Parked in the devastated area. Started around 6am. Was teaching a friend how to self-arrest and so we ended up taking 8-10 hours to reach the summit and back. Should take <6 hours. The true summit is on the right. We ended up realizing that mid-way through our climb and tried traversing. Probably a better idea to traverse from the top if needed. The last part of the climb is steep. Going from the right is easier.
...by leaving early in the morning and getting done by 10:20. High 90's all week it looks like.
Fun little hike on the way home from climbing Mount Whitney. I didn't think much of this one until I entered the National Park and was blown away. It a beautiful place. Easy hike up. 2.5 hours RT.
Brought my buddy Donatas. His first mountaineering trip. hiked up the road from the visitor center, carrying snowshoes in hand due to hard pack snow. snowshoed the rest of the way to the summer trailhead. stashed snowshoes and extra stuff in the trees. crampons and axes up the southeast ridge. Perfect weather and conditions. Crystal clear and 360 degree views. long glissades back down and then a long trudge back to the car at the visitor center. 16 miles round trip.
Always love the views from the top!
Great views of Mt. Shasta.
New trailwork makes Lassen Peak pretty easy. Took 1h 10 minutes to the summit. I was denied 5 years ago due to the trail being closed.
Impromptu speed lap on Lassen for my 4th of July day off.
Fairly crowded since only a few weekends were open this season.
Gaper sightings were unreal!
Mid-morning climb with my 11 year old son, Michael. I was surprised by the absence of any breeze at the summit. Just after we reached the summit, a jet fighter circled the peak at our elevation a couple of times, close enough that we could see the pilot.
Fat wide trail....enough said. Cold on top though.
Part of a Memorial weekend adventure. Snow was real sloppy, but it was still worth the trip.
Snowboarding was awesome, although it was crusty/icy up top and the approach lacked snow. Wrote a trip report (incl. route and conditions) at http://beachyadventures.blogspot.com/2014/05/lassen-peak-snowboarding.html
Climbed the SW ridge with a team of nine from Lake Helen base camp. We had a storm the night before but woke up to a gorgeous full moon. An early start put us on the summit around 1030am. We took the old ranger cutoff on the walkout. Much faster and we were back at the cars in 2.5 hours from Lake Helen.
A thanksgiving trip into the serene Mt Lassen area. A simple, straightforward snow climb.
