Route Climbed: South Side Date Climbed: June 25, 2000
By this time of year, the road was plowed and there was very little snow remaining on the trail. The snow had already started breaking up on the Northeast Face, however, there were still some decent runs on the South Face. This was my first time up this volcano and unfortunately I didn't bring my skis. On the way up I ran into a guy hiking up in flip-flop sandals, t-shirt, and shorts, with his snowboard and boots. I got to see him ride down the South Face using his sandals as "gloves" as well as a skier who was stuck out on the slope. Since this guy wasn't moving, a ranger had to go up to meet him - not sure what happened there. It was a gorgeous day and I highly recommend going when there's still snow.
