North Ridge with NE Face Ski Descent
Awesome! Left the Crags campsite at 5:30 and started up from the Devastated Area at around 6AM. Surprisingly good snow conditions except in a few areas close to the summit. Got to the top at around 10:30 and switched to ski boots for the incredible descent back to the car. What a day! My first route as a Californian.

CHAOS Beginner Mountaineering Clinic - SE Ridge
Spent two nights in the snow beneath this peak teaching some members of the Cal Hiking and Outdoor Society (CHAOS) basic winter mountaineering skills from climbing and beacon searches to snow shelter construction. We topped it off with a nice snow climb of the SE Ridge of the peak.

Injured on ski descent
The company I worked for in Reno went out of business, so my boss and I went skiing with another co-worker. The bowl had some of the largest suncups I have ever skied. My ski got caught on the edge of a cup and twisted my knee. After removing my other ski I traversed over to the trail, where there was lady, who just happened to be a nurse. She helped me walk down the trail to the parking area, where I met my partners who carried my pack and skis down on their ski descent.

First Time Over 10,000!
After climibing to the top of Cinder Cone and nearly passing out from exhaustion in June of 2007 I thought I was surely going to perish on the much higher Lassen Peak Trail. My climbing partner (Nephew David) assured me that this trail was easier than Cinder Cone and that I would be just fine. As usual he was right, although I did take is easy just to make sure. When the 87 year old granny passed me I threw caution to the wind and zoomed up to the top!

Tourist Trail
Took the tourist trail. I did it later in the day so there were only a few people on the trail. I wonder how many people don't go to the actual high point of this mountain?

1st of two
With gas prices plunging to 3.40 a gallon here in Bend, I had to make the long drive to norcal to see what the area's all about. The mountain was a little cold and bleak; and there was a dense layer of haze from controlled burns that really limited the view. Neat summit area, if nothing else seeing the park made the trip worthwhile, and nearby brokeoff mountain is a great hike to combine with this one.
We did Lassen a few years ago and the views from the summit were great. The hike itself is not so nice; boring, a lot of people. It's an easy and fast hike.

Easy Bag
Super easy hike, followed up with a hike and overnight stay at Ridge Lakes. I was kind of disappointed to see how crowded it was, must have seen almost a hundred people. Would be a cool mountain to come back and do in the winter.

Trail
Smoky and minimal views. Weird penis thing jutting out of the summit.
Lots of people coming down the trail. Not too many going up by the time we left (1:45 @ trailhead?). Half of our party bailed and made us late. Not too crowded at the top. Lots of haze and smoke from fires, but Shasta popped out for a few minutes! Should have yelled at ppl cutting switchbacks and feeding chipmunks but was too busy huff'n'puffin'
