Where is this?
thats a really good pic
What a superb shot
This is in Chamonix, France at the Mer de Glace. A train takes you to Montenvers where you can access the glacier. Thanks for all the comments!!
Great Work. I like the BW.
The mist and fog is reminiscent of some of the of the Hudson River School painters that migrated to California in the 19th century. Wonderful lighting and shadows; I'l bet you don't get these conditions very often.
Well, the funny thing was that I didn't have any of those conditions. All I had was a partly cloudy day, a setting sun and a 3 MP camera! I am so glad the photo turned out so wonderful.
That is one mean looking mountain...Nice shot.
Before you take photo, prepare the lighting all the angles?
I didn't prepare any of the lighting, just the angles. The photo just came naturally to me.
Is the lighter area of rock running down center right of the mountain where the Bonatti Pillar "used" to be?
After doing some research, I am sad to say that it is. Unfortunately, this isn't even the worst tragedy to happen in the Alps. You really need to read about the Eiger, if you haven't already.
This magnificent mountain has been badly wounded. However, I'm afraid it isn't the end of the story.
Wow, this really is a sad shot. I had no idea this mountain was so scarred. I can't imagine what this mountain will look like in 20 years.
Wonder where Robbins' FA line is...
Wow! This picture takes my breath away. It looks like a painting or a peak in some fantasy movie like Lords of the Ring.
Thanks for posting.
I thought that same thing when viewing the photo, but when you experience Le Dru and the area, it all makes perfect sense.
