Je me présente, en la personne de Monsieur GRAF Christophe. Français, je suis alsacien de naissance et j'ai grandi au pied du célèbre massif des Vosges. Actuellement âgé de 33 ans, je suis un grand passionné de randonnée pédestre et de photographie de nature sauvage. Depuis plusieurs années déjà, je randonne régulièrement, dans trois massifs distincts : les Vosges bien évidemment, mais également, le Palatinat allemand ainsi que la Forêt-Noire. Je photographie tout ce qui concerne l'élément naturel, à savoir : les rochers qu'ils soient en granite ou en grès, les lacs, les tourbières, les sommets, les panoramas, la faune et la flore sauvage, etc. Grâce à cette toute nouvelle page, je souhaite vous faire partager ma passion pro-nature, ainsi que les différentes aventures naturelles et sauvages que j'ai pu vivre. Afin de rendre cette page consultable par le plus grand nombre d'entre vous, j'ai décidé de la traduire en deux langues : ma langue natale qui est le français, ainsi que l'international anglais ...

I'm presenting myself to you, in the person of Mister GRAF Christophe. French, I was born in the Alsace and I grown at the foot of the Vosges. I'm actually 33 years old and I'm fond of pedestrian hikes and photography of wild nature. Since already several years, I'm hiking regularly, in three differents massives : the Vosges of course, but equally, the german Palatinate and the Black Forest. I'm photographying all things which are linked with the natural element, to know : the rocks (they can be in grey granit or in pink sandstone), the lakes, the peat bogs, the peaks, the panoramas, the wild life (animals and flora), etc. With this totally new page, my goal is to share with you my great passion for the nature, and my different adventures that I'd done. To be more efficient on the web and to seduce more people all around the world, I'd decided to traduce this page in two languages : my first one, which is french of course and the second one, which is the international english ...
Un peu de géographie concernant les Vosges ...
Le massif des Vosges est situé dans le quart Nord-Est de la France, il englobe deux régions distinctes : la Lorraine à l'Ouest et l'Alsace à l'Est. Le massif est orienté suivant un axe Nord / Sud, il prend naissance à Wissembourg, à la frontière avec le Palatinat allemand et il se finit près de Belfort, à la limite avec la région Franche-Comté et le Territoire de Belfort (90). Les Vosges dominent la vaste plaine du Rhin, avec trois villes importantes : Strasbourg, Colmar et Mulhouse. Strasbourg, la ville européenne par excellence, possède une agglomération riche d'environ 400000 habitants. La région Alsace est composée de deux départements : le Bas-Rhin au Nord (67) et le Haut-Rhin au Sud (68). Les points culminants respectifs sont les suivants : les 1099 mètres du Champ-du-Feu pour le Bas-Rhin et les 1424 mètres du Grand Ballon pour le Haut-Rhin. Les plus grandes vallées sont les suivantes : celle de la Bruche pour le Bas-Rhin et celle de la Thur pour le Haut-Rhin.
Dans le Bas-Rhin (67), rares sont les sommets à dépasser la barre des 1000 mètres d'altitude. Je peux citer parmi eux : le Donon et ses 1009 mètres, le Rocher de Mutzig et ses 1010 mètres, ainsi que le Champ-du-Feu et ses 1099 mètres. Au Nord de l'autoroute A4 et de Saverne, l'altitude baisse encore d'un cran, avec à peine 581 mètres au Grand Wintersberg (sis lui, au-dessus de Niederbronn-les-Bains). La grande vallée de la Bruche fait office de frontière, entre le massif à grès rose du Schneeberg au Nord et le massif à granite gris du Champ-du-Feu au Sud. Dans le Haut-Rhin (68), les altitudes sont plus conséquentes. Le point culminant est le célèbre Grand Ballon, avec ses 1424 mètres. Plusieurs autres sommets remarquables, dépassent les 1300 mètres d'altitude ; exemples, dans l'ordre d'altitude : le Storckenkopf (1368 m), le Hohneck (1366 m), le Kastelberg (1350 m), le Klintzkopf (1330 m), le Rothenbachkopf (1316 m), le Batteriekopf (1311 m), le Gazon du Faing (1306 m), ou encore, le Rainkopf (1305 m).
Au-delà de 1200 mètres d'altitude, le massif des Hautes-Vosges possède un étage montagnard dénommé chaumes. Il s'agit d'un espace naturel entièrement dénudé, sans végétation arborée, car exposé aux intempéries provenant de l'Ouest Atlantique. Ces vastes espaces offrent très souvent de remarquables horizons panoramiques, pouvant aller jusqu'aux Alpes suisses et autrichiennes. Par temps très clair et dégagé, la vue pourra même porter jusqu'au légendaire toit de l'Europe, à savoir le Mont-Blanc et ses 4807 mètres d'altitude maximale. Trois sentiers de grande randonnée, parcourent le massif vosgien, à des altitudes plus ou moins élevées : il s'agit du GR 531 rectangle bleu, du GR 532 rectangle jaune, ainsi que du plus célèbre GR5 rectangle rouge. Ce dernier permet d'accéder au plus haut sommet vosgien, à savoir le Grand Ballon et ses 1424 mètres, en partance de la célèbre station de ski du Markstein. Plusieurs autres sommets célèbres sont accessibles par le sentier du GR 5 ; exemples : Schneeberg, Donon, Brézouard, Tanet, Hohneck, Ballon d'Alsace, etc. Pour le GR 531 rectangle bleu, le point culminant s'établit au Rainkopf (1305 mètres). Pour le GR 532 rectangle jaune, le point culminant s'établit au Petit Ballon (1272 mètres). Un quatrième sentier de grande randonnée existe dans l'Ouest du massif vosgien, bien qu'il soit moins connu et fréquenté : il s'agit du GR 533 rectangle vert.
A little bit geography with the Vosges ...
The massive of the Vosges is located in the quarter North-East of the France, he's running on two different provinces, which are the Lorraine at the West and the Alsace at the East. The Vosges are aligned from North to South, they are beginning at Wissembourg, at the limit with the german Palatinate and they are finishing near Belfort, at the limit with the province of the Franche-Comté and the Belfort's Territory (90). The Vosges are dominating the big plain of the Rhine, with three important cities : Strasbourg, Colmar and Mulhouse. Strasbourg, the european city in excellence, is having a population of approximatively 400000 inhabitants. The province of the Alsace is having two departments : the Low-Rhine at the North (67) and the High-Rhine at the South (68). The highest summits are respectively the next : the Champ-du-Feu with 1099 meters for the Low-Rhine and the Grand Ballon with 1424 meters for the High-Rhine. The biggest valleys are the next : the Bruche for the Low-Rhine and the Thur for the High-Rhine.
In the Low-Rhine (67), the peaks which are reaching an altitude of 1000 meters are rare. I can quote the next : the Donon with 1009 meters, the Mutzig's Rock with 1010 meters and the Champ-du-Feu with 1099 meters. At the North of the highway A4 and the small city of Saverne, the altitude is becoming still lower, with only 581 meters at the Grand Wintersberg (he's located above Niederbronn-les-Bains). The big valley of the Bruche is the border, between the pink sandstone massive of the Schneeberg at the North and the grey granit massive of the Champ-du-Feu at the South. In the High-Rhine (68), the summits are higher. The highest one is the Grand Ballon, with 1424 meters. Several other remarkable summits, are reaching an altitude of 1300 meters ; examples, in the order of altitude : Storckenkopf (1368 m), Hohneck (1366 m), Kastelberg (1350 m), Klintzkopf (1330 m), Rothenbachkopf (1316 m), Batteriekopf (1311 m), Gazon du Faing (1306 m), and still, Rainkopf (1305 m).
Above 1200 meters, the massive of the Vosges is having a '' mountain floor " , named as thatch. It's a natural space which is entirely nuded, without trees. At this altitude, the weather conditions are very hard, wild, especially with the storms which are coming from the western Atlantic. These very extended spaces are offering, very often, remarkable panoramas : from many peaks, we can recognize the Bernese and the Austrian Alps. In very dry weather conditions, from the Vosges, the hikers will recognize the legendary european summit, which is the White Mount with a maximal height of 4807 meters. Three main hiking paths are running in the Vosges, at different altitude levels : their names are the next, with the GR 531 blue rectangle, the GR 532 yellow rectangle and the most famous of them, the GR 5 red rectangle. The GR 5 hiking path is the only one, which will drives you at the summit of the Vosges : the Grand Ballon with 1424 meters. The traditionnal departure is established at the skiing station of the Markstein. Several other famous summits are having an access with the GR 5 ; examples : Schneeberg, Donon, Brézouard, Tanet, Hohneck, Ballon d'Alsace, etc. For the GR 531 blue rectangle, the highest point is the Rainkopf (1305 meters). For the GR 532 yellow rectangle, the highest point is the Small Balloon (1272 meters). A fourth main hiking path is existing in the western part of the Vosges, this one is less known and frequented by the hikers : it's the GR 533, which is marked with a green rectangle.
