A fun short hike to great views. While driving through Yosemite, traffic started backing up inside the park so instead of waiting in my car in gridlock I parked and tagged the summits of Lembert and Dog Domes. I had no idea where I was going but route-finding wasn't difficult. Since it was in the evening and most people were leaving, I was lucky enough to get both domes to myself. Got some great views of sunset over Tuolumne including my first view of Cathedral Peak. This great profile view fired my desire to climb Cathedral which I would do 2 years later. Dog Dome has some weird boulders on it that look like they were pushed up by people with too much time on their hands. To think a glacier had deposited them there is a little strange. This is also when I learned that hiking up easy granite slabs in Tevas without socks isn't so good for your feet!
I'd definately like to come back to do some of the technical routes and visiting this area in the winter would be truly sublime! Too bad they don't allow snowmobiles - just kidding!
