Fedroolian is right. I think all the larger volcanoes in the Northwest get them. I see them quite often over Mount Rainier.

Yeah the tapered edges really give it that UFO look. Have you ever been climbing under one of these things? I haven't, but friends of mine tell me it can be interesting.

Yep - as a matter of fact, my brother and I
walked into one (in 1983) on Mount Adams.

Probably the last time I would want to
participate in that activity. The winds were
whistling something wicked, and it was hard
to breathe with the snow blowing and all.

Besides, you couldn't see anything, and I
climb mountains for the views.
